Hello all, I saw all the messages about Licking County, OH and thought I would relay some information I heard mention of the glass industry in Ohio and folks moving from Shenandoah County to Ohio for that reason. If you think about the last quarter of the 19th century, the country was moving from an agricultural to industrial economy. Also as the population increased, there was a general trend of migration from the east to the west. I think Tiffin, Ohio was a common place for our Shenandoah Countians to move to, as it is mentioned a lot in my own family's history as well as turning up often in Judy Stickley's obituaries. From a search for glass in Licking County, OH, on the web, there is mention of a glass industry that started there in the 1890's. I didn't do a thorough search, but did find enough to know that it did exist at that time. Hope this gets someone pointed in the right direction to answer some questions. The glass industry makes sense, but my families came in the 1830-40 era. Thanks for your info.
