If you think about the last quarter of the 19th century, the country was moving from an agricultural to industrial economy. Also as the population increased, there was a general trend of migration from the east to the west. I think Tiffin, Ohio was a common place for our Shenandoah Countians to move to, as it is mentioned a lot in my own family's history as well as turning up often in Judy Stickley's obituaries. From a search for glass in Licking County, OH, on the web, there is mention of a glass industry that started there in the 1890's. I didn't do a thorough search, but did find enough to know that it did exist at that time. Hope this gets someone pointed in the right direction to answer some questions.
