Netti Schreiner-Yantis and Florene Speakman Love have published "The Personal Property Tax Lists for the Year 1787 for Shenandoah County, Virginia." The publisher shown is Genealogical Books in Print, Springfield in Print, Springfield, Va. I do not know if this book is in print or if the publisher is still in business. Perhaps someone will let us know. The 1787 Shenandoah County Personal Property Tax Lists are important in it was the only year in which local tax commissioners were required by law to call on each person at that person's residence. Before this (and also afterwards, I think) the people took their lists to the commissioner. JB
