Rosemary, I hope the following is of some help. This is what I have on John LEWIN. He apparently settled in Harrison Twp. and according to the Pickaway Co. History (Pg. 123) he was there by 1810 and his marriage was the 1st one recorded in Harrison Twp. He was married by a Squire James DENNY to Salome CLUTTER, both of whom arrived with William RENICK. The story of William RENICK, the well known cattle man, is well documented in Franklin, Pickaway, and I think Ross Co., OH histories. I also found a marriage record for Enoch Henry (also of VA) who married a Polly Lewin in 1807 in Franklin Co. which suggest there were Lewin's in the area prior to 1810. I believe this is the Enoch Henry from the "Gooney Run" area that came to Ohio possibly with a Moses, William, and John. Many settlers from Gallia, Ross, Pickaway, Franklin, and Madison Co., OH joined together in 1825 in Pickaway Co. before going west. Many settled in Indiana and some in Piatt Co., IL. I just checked and there is a John A Lewin in Vermilion Co., IL in 1830, pg. 110, No Twp. Listed. There is probably a lot more info in Pickaway. The folks at the Pickaway Co. Genealogical Society are very helpful and even answer question via e-mail. Their rootsweb mailing list is very active. Interesting Diane, You mentioned the migration from Ohio Westward. My David Russell, from Gooney Run area of Shen. Co. settled first in Muskinghum Co, OH.. Licking Co, OH .. then went to Vermillion Co, IND. which is adjacent to Vermillion Co, IL. There were also Slaters & a Crown family who migrated from MD to Shen. Co, VA to the above counties in Ohio and then to Vermillion Co, IND. Makes you wonder if they followed a path you mention. David Russell and the Slaters were in Verm. Co. IN for the 1830 Census.
