I am interested in finding the location of my ancestor's, Nicholas DRUCK, farm. He bought the land (70 acres) in 1793 from Anthony & Clara RODENHEIFFER. It mentions "the drains of Stony Creek" "Cats Hollow" and "May's Run". In 1813 they added 118 acres from John & Barbara MILLER, 1/10 of land of David RODENHEIFFER. After Nicholas and his wife Susannah died the farm (the 70 acres) was owned (1848) by their daughter Rebecca and Emmanual RINEHART. I am guessing that the other acres (118) went to their oldest son George DRUCK. I think (not positive) that in 1851 the RINEHARTS sold the 70 acres to Benjamin & Lucy IRWIN. Can anyone give me any clues to the location of this land? Thanks, Carole Trook-Hacker
CA Hacker, May's run shows on topo map for Shenandoah Co. Key in Columbis Furnace VA. and move west along Stony Creek or route 675 till you get to Mays Run on the right of the Stony Creek. Starting at Columbia Furnace intersection at creek and going west...the first drain is Cat Hollow...the next is a road called Johnstown [old Sine Brothers road a local name] and the next break is Mays Run. You will see also Mays Spring. Druck got 70 A. from Rodenheffer and was the south end of the Rodeheffer tract.
Robert, Thanks so much for the information. It really helps me to know they lived near what is now Columbia Furnace. Where do I find the topo map that you mentioned?
