    3. >Other than the parents names, is there any information in the SSDI record on >the parents such as place of birth? The SSDI is just an index of names of deceased, year of birth, location and date of death and the SS number. The actual SS application contains the applicant's name, age, sex, race, date of birth, place of birth, current address, current employer, parent's names (including mother's maiden name) and the applicant's signature. The parent's place of birth is not noted - at least not in any of the applications I've received. I've found the SS application helpful in cases where the parents, or the mother's maiden name are not listed on the death record. Sometimes the informant for the death record is not familiar with the deceased family history. If a grandchild, niece, nephew, neighbor or even a nurse is the informant, they may not have any of this information. The SS application is filled out by the applicant, so the information is usually more reliable and accurate.
