In the Virginia State Library in Richmond, Virginia one will find "Personal Tax Papers" - hand written - for Shenandoah County, Virginia for the years 1782 thru 1793. The explanation of same is that any male over 21 years was required to pay a "poll tithable tax" and a tax on his cattle and horses. If the man had a son, that son had to be paid for also upon reaching age 16. The father would pay the sons tax until the son reached 21 years of age and then he (the son) would pay his own tax. Way back yonder in the early 1970's when I first started looking into family background I saw these TAX PAPERS in Richmond. I see that the 1783 County wide list is available - also the Cline and Job families - on the Shenandoah Web site. My question - are these records available either in the Net or on microfilm. Thanks.......Eugene
