    3. Nancy, In "A History of Shenandoah County, Virginia" by John Wayland, page 608, it states that "Paul Henkel was born in Rowan County, North Carolina in 1754 and he and his family refugeed from Catawba Indians to New Market. He established churches in Augusta County, VA., and was one of the founders of the Lutheran synod of North Carolina. He was a missionary in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee." If he had a permanent church in Shenandoah County it would have been one of the Lutheran churches. In the book he is not listed as being with any of the churches. Mary Randall Message text written by INTERNET:VASHENAN-L@rootsweb.com >Good evening, The marriage record of William Corder m. to Cathrine Philips simply stated that the marriage was registered--no witnesses. The ShenCo marriage bonds for 1809 seem to have vanished. So now, I want to see if I can find any church records on this couple. The VA Genealogist listed Rev. Henkels marriages in Vol. 17. Can anyone tell me what church Rev. Henkels' records might have been recorded? Nancy Santa Fe, NM <
