    1. [VASHENAN] Rev. J. W. Steirwalt or J.P. Stirewalt, where?
    2. Howard Miller
    3. J.P. Stirewalt serviced as the pastor of the Rader's Church and Timberville Parish from 1882-1919 according to the book, The Lutheran Church in Virginia, 1717-1962, by William E Eisenberg, published by the Va. Synod, Lutheran Church in Va. Roanoke, Va. 1976. (see page 530) I do not find a J.W. Stiewalt in this book. Rader's church is in Timberville. I can not find in the book, the other churches or locations that were included in the Timberville Parish. In the Lutheran church, a Parish may include several churches. I noticed that J.P. Stirewalt also served as pastor of the Morning Star Lutheran Church in Orkeny Springs from 1906-1907. From a brief review of the book, it appears that J.P.Stirewalt was only serving at the Timberville church in 1918. You should do a more extensive review of this book. I think that you will need to find J.P. Stirewalt's "day book," minister record or journal to determine just where he was on 16 May 1918. One may not exist, but I would first check at the Lutheran Seminary, in Gettysburg, Pa. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Richard A. I have a photocopy of an old unidentified newspaper clipping that says Bettie Margaret Pence and Caspter Allen Kipps motored from Timberville to "our town" to be married on 16 May 1918. Am trying to figure out if "our town" is in Rockingham or Shenandoah County. They were married by the Rev. J. P. Stirewalt, D.D. I know I'ver run across that latter name before, but where did he serve? After the wedding, the couple was "motored to New Market" apparently to catch the "Southern train to Washington." They were on their way to Milwaukee, Wissconsin, where the groom was to soon be ordained as a Lutheran minister. He had accepted a call to serve a congregation in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Where is "our town"? Richard A. 3. Thanks so much for the information on Pastor Stirewalt. To the mix, I will add this tidbit, gleaned from another newspaper clipping: "At 12 o'clock m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1919, Miss Resale Lue PENCE and Mr. Martin Turner Golliday were married at the home of the officiating minister by Rev. J. P. Stirewalt, D. D., in New Market, Va. So, at least in October of 1919, the Rev. Stiirewalt had a home in New Market. Now to find out where he was the preceding year, per the original request below. I'm going to go back over the first clipping to make sure I didn't miss anything, but my reading of it says the 1918 marriage by J. P. Sitrewalt took place in "our town" and the couple "motored" there from Timberville and following the ceremony they "were motored" to New Market. I know I'm full of questions this week, but I am poring through photocopies of an old scrapbook full of clippings - many on the Pence family, but others are also included (mostly in-laws, I suspect) trying to glean what I can. It is frustrating trying to tie things down when the name of the paper and the date are not noted with the clippings. It's nice to know that "the happy couple" were married on Wednesday but it would be even nice to know which Wednesday in which year and which city. <g> Richard ----- Original Message ----- From: "Howard Miller" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 06, 2007 1:07 PM Subject: [VASHENAN] Rev.
