    3. Hi there. Dr. John W. Wayland has included information about Anderson Moffett, a distinguished Baptist preacher, in his book, A History of Shenandoah County Virginia. According to Wayland: Moffett lived near Mt. Jackson in 1783 and in 1785. At the time of the earlier census he had four whites in family, in the later one, six; and at this he is credited with one dwelling and two other buildings. He is listed as a neighbor of Abraham Bird who had a splendid homestead. On May 14 , 1835, Eld. Anderson Moffett, age nearly 89, who for fifty years or more had been pastor of the Smith Creek Baptist Church, died. He is buried in the old Moffett graveyard near the point where the Fairfax Line crosses the river above New Market in Rockingham County. Mrs. Anderson Moffett was Barbara, daughter of Elder Casper Hupp. She died at her residence in Rockingham County,VA. on Nov.9, 1848 at the age of 90. Both her father and brother were Baptist preachers. Anderson and Barbara Moffet's daughter, Mary, married Samuel Newman (b 1779) and their son, Anderson Newman later moved to Pendleton county, now West Virginia, was representative of that county in the Virginia house of delegates 1846-47. Later he was representative of Pendleton, Rockingham and Page counties in the Virginia constitutional convention of 1850-51. Info there on page 625 in the Newman family section. Lots more info about the Moffetts and their kin on pages 713-714 Rev Anderson Moffett, the son of Henry Moffitt of Fauquier County. Va. was born in 1744 It is written that Rev Moffett preached the Gospel for more than 70 years. That he was persecuted (in his early career) and was cast into the Culpeper jail It is certain that he was in Shenandoah County in 1782---51 years before his death. Hope this helps. Later, Nancy "Shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life......."
