After he had begun to preach the Gospel he settled in the vicinity of Mt Jackson and New Market and became paster of the Smith Creek Baptist Church. He died May 14, 1835, aged 88 year, 8 months, and 16 days. The above was copied Oct 17, 1925 from a notebook loaned by Mrs Anne Moffett White (Mrs. Dr. B.R. White), of Strasburg, Va and Mrs White sayes her notes were copied from, Miss Anne Newman's family record in her scrap book.It is stated here also: That A Moffett preached the Gospel for more than 70 years. That he was persecuted (in his early career) and cast into Culpeper Jail; That he was pastor of the Smith Creek Church for more than 50 years. It is certain that he was in Shenandoah County as early as 1782 51 years before his death. Mrs Anderson Moffett was Barbara, daughter of Elder Casper Hupp. She died at her residence in Rockingham County, Virginia on Thursday, November 9, 1848, aged 90 years and 9 days.
