    1. [VASHENAN] George Burkhart
    2. How do you connect to a George Buckhart if you do not know about his earlier years? Why are you working forward? I research a George Burkhart who settled & died in Harlan Co., KY. Before 1800 he lived in Lee Co. VA. He has a Rev War Pension application that was not approved for lack proof of service. He states he served from Bedford Co., PA. Estate and land records[ I have but have not myself researched or rechecked] that indicate he was the son of a George Burkhart of Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA . His father was a carpenter and possibly had 2 Hessian prisoners "farmed out to him" working for him. In this application, as I remember, there is a period that I am not sure where he lived. I have wondered if the one in Smyth Co., VA was him. In Harlan Co. (1819) from Knox (1800) from Lincoln (1780). Did you find a marriage record for any George Burkhart/Buckhart/Burghart anywhere? Inferred wife? In Lee Co., VA his wife should have been Sophia/Sophira Johns(t)on. He married twice more. This BURGHART pension can be found in the digitized Rev War Pension and Bounty Land Applications at _www.footnote.com_ (http://www.footnote.com) . Some facts from his deposition on 14 March 1832 done in Lee Co., VA [He lived in Cranks/Cranks Creek in Harlan Co., KY at the foot of the mountain that separates VA and KY.] 1. 94 years old 2. 1775 he resided on the Allegany, in Bedford Co., PA. Militia service commanded by Capt John Miller for 4 years. later the Capt. Soloman Adams; then, Capt Richard Delop 3. Removed about 40 years [1792] into this county of Lee, where he resided many years, then removed to Knox now Harlan Co., KY where he yet resides about 7 miles distant Lee Courthouse Virginia. Pension was not allowed as no proof of service was furnished. >From a letter from the pension office in answer to a query: George Burghart, Burkhart or Buckhart was born February 9 1741 Witnesses were Abraham Crabtree, minister and Daniel Dickinson. [George Buckhart sold land with wife Sophira in 1804 which he had bought from a Daniel Dickinson in Lee Co., VA 1798. The Tennessee Civil War Questionnaire of Isaac Thompson [my direct line] names his grandparents as Lyats [Eliphalets] Johnson & Betty Buckhart. She should be a daughter of George and Sophia/Sophira Johnson Buckhart/ Burkhart/ Burghart. If you run across an Eliphalets Johnson ... please please email. He is on Knox and Harlan Cos., KY tax lists around 1818 then a year in Lee Co., VA and whoosh! He may have had a brother Israel. Let me know if this fits anything you have.
