    3. In connection with our Dressler and Spore research in Shenandoah Co., we have always been puzzled why my g-g-gm Maria Magdelina Dressler Spore's baptism shows up in the Monocacy Lutheran Church records in Frederick MD, when the family was believed to live in Frederick and Shen. Co. VA. This record is in a publication, "MARYLAND GERMAN CHURCH RECORDS, Vol 3 1742-1779", Translated and edited by Frederick S. Weiser. "(The following were baptized by John Andrew Krug.) Maria Magdalena, dau. of Andreas and Maria Dressler, b 4 May 1771, bp. 21 June 1772. Sponsors: Heinrich and Rosina Voelckner" Then,on a hunch, I recently purchased a book, "THE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN VIRGINIA 1717-1962", by William Edward Eisenberg, 1967. In a short section on "VISITING PASTORS FROM MARYLAND AND PENNSYLVANIA", it reads, "During this trying period in American life and in the life of the Lutheran Church as a whole, pastors from Maryland and Pennsylvania were delegated to look after vacant Virginia congregations. Lovettsville was served from Frederick, Md., by John William Samuel Schwerdtfeger for some three years after its start; then by a Mr. Sartorius, about whom little is known; and then by John Andrew Krug, from approximately 1772-86. For several years Krug journeyed to Strasburg and Woodstock to preach and to give catechetical instruction. . . ." In another section on Rev. Paul Henkel, it is stated that he (Henkel) "studied theology under Pastor John Andrew Krug of Frederick, Md." Another interesting item in the book is this account--"The earliest parish record that has come to light is found in the register of the Lutheran Church at Frederick, Maryland. Pastor John Andreas Krug recorded the fact that on June 22, 1772, he confirmed a class of twenty-eight catechumens at Woodstock, Dunmore County, Virginia, and admitted them to their first communion. He then listed the twenty-eight names." Gerald L Spore (g-g-gson of Jacob Spore and Maria Magdelina Dressler, married in Shen. Co. in 1792)
