Would someone clue me in as to what "the benefit of my homestead exemption as to this debt" is/was? In Jun 1879 Samuel Bowman signed a note, witnessed by Aaron and Benjamin McInturff, promising to pay John P. Coverstone $212.50 for the Jesse Clem farm which he had bought and he waved the benefit.
