    1. Re: [VASHENAN] Question about the surname Ruby and Rudy, Shenandoah County, VA
    2. Hi Chocy, Correct me if I am misinterpreting what you say that Amelia Gilbreath says in her book: That the Name Rudy and Reedy are one and the same family because in the Deed records when they wrote the name Rudy someone interpreted the u that a clerk wrote in the Deed book to be two ee's and vice versa? Maybe I should explain my curiosity about the Rudy and Ruby name being possibly the same. It came about because of the following lineage as we were wondering if the Ruby below could really be Rudy since that name was in the family more prominently then Ruby. Hmmmmmmmmm. John Martin Foltz Daniel Foltz and Magdalene Ruby John Foltz and Mary Margaret Pence Uriah Foltz and Ann Hoover, whose grandparents were John Hoover and Elizabeth Bushong Amanda Foltz and Andrew Jackson Bushong, s/o of Jacob and Elizabeth Interestingly enough, I have been trying to track down the John Bushong Jr. Bible that was bought way back at an estate sale in April 1796 in Shenandoah County by Philip Redy. This could be Reedy or Rudy. ------------------------- On another note, while searching for the name Rudy and Ruby in Circuit Court records of Virginia, I found a group of people that had come from Shenandoah, Rockingham, and Augusta County to Tazewell County early on (probably between 1810 and 1830). I know that the Bosang and Bushong families had come down to Pulaski, Wythe, Montgomery, Washington, and Tazewell counties about that time but really never looked to see who else was there from Shenandoah and surround area. Some of the names besides the Bosang and Bushongs are Ritter, Brew/Brugh/Brough, Sitz, Fox, Cline, Greever, Gaw, Repass, Rudy, Ritter, Hedrick, Jenkins, Conley, and many more so if you are missing a relative, you might want to take a look there. Many of these names married in to the Bosang and Bushong families and their collateral lines. A guy by the name of Gaspar Ritter and his two sons John and Peter Ritter probably came from, I am guessing either Augusta or Shenandoah circa 1800-1830 since the names associated with them were from these two counties and owned two tracts of land, one for 100 acres and one for 47 acres and a third tract son Peter Ritter was partners with Philip Greever, Jacob Rudy, George Rudy, Michael Brough, Jacob Spracher which contained 2400 acres on Clinch mountain near Burkes Gardens (Tazewell County). By 1837, after Peter Ritter died, his brother John and Peter's heirs petitioned the court to divide up the tracts in to equal shares for all. Of course the widow of Peter Ritter named Margaret, wanted her 1/3 Dower in the lands which she got. All of them got a sizeable chunk of land from the division. Peter and Margaret Ritter's children were John N. Ritter, Adam J. Ritter, and George P. Ritter and at the time they were infant heirs with a guardian ad litem appointed, a relative named George S. Ritter. This is why it is so important when doing genealogy to know all of the lines married into the family since you never know when they might intersect again either going forward or backwards. ------------------------ Tabor Reformed Church (Dauphin County, PA) Historical Note: The Church was located in the Borough of Lebanon, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
