Listers, If you are going to be researching in Virginia for any length of time, I highly recommend a membership in "The Virginia Genelogical Society" which provides wonderful booklets containing abstracts of county records plus a newsletter that keep members well informed on where to find information, as well as what in the works for the future. The following article came from one the newsletters that also included an article on the DAR online website projects and how those are progressing and going forward to provide more and better information to the general public. The "Virginia Genealocial Society Newletter; December 2009" Pages 10-11 -------------------------- To date, The Library of Virginia has posted over 4 million digital chancery images. More localities are presently being scanned and will be posted in the comining month. However, due to the recent redutions to the Library of Virginia's budget, the pace of the agency's digital chancery projests will necessarily proceed more slowly. PLEASE, not these projects REMAIN a very HIGH PRIORITY for the the agency and it is hoped that the initiative can be RESUMED in FULL when the ecomomy and the agency's budget situation improve. Please see the Chancery Records Index for a listing of the avaliable locality chancery collections. CHANCERY CAUSES are cases that are decided on the basis of equity and fairness as OPPPOSED to the strictly formuated rules of COMMON LAW cases. ---------------------------------- CHANCERY CAUSES often contain correspondenc; property lists, including slaves; lists of heirs; along with many oterh records. ------------------------- For comments, question, or correction regarding CRI or scanned images, plese contact _chancery@lva.virginia.gov_ (mailto:chancery@lva.virginia.gov) .
