Does anyone have any sources they could check to help me in my search for where in Shenandoah County James Allen had land in 1814? I'd also be interested in any online land records for historical time periods in Shenandoah County. I've found wonderful online sources of this type in Loudoun County, and was hoping to find some of the same for Shenandoah County. Have you checked the Library of Virginia on-line digital images site? If he's listed on there, you can at least find out how many acres he owned and when it was acquired. 1815 Directory of Virginia Landowners (and Gazetteer), Volume 4, Northern Region, abstracted by Robert G. Ward has two James Allens in Shenandoah County. One is listed as a sadler and lives in Woodstock. The other lives North River, 15 miles south of the courthouse. I'm assuming that the River is the Shenandoah, but the 15 miles south of the courthouse at least gives a vicinity for his place. Linda, The 1815 Landowners Directory states he has land 15 mi S on North River. That puts him very near Meem's Bottom.
