The 1790 census was destroyed and it has been reconstructed as much as possible using the various tax roles of 1783, 1785 and some others. Anything that says 1790 census in Virginia is not - it's the tax roles. Bev In a message dated 9/13/2010 12:40:51 A.M. Tom - I will look for the 1783 Heads of families for the areas you mention. It is good to know there are such lists out there. Will also check out the 1785. I took a 12 year hiatus on genealogy files and am now trying to decipher my notes. In those days it was happy days at LDS or library. Now there is so much online and I am learning how to find it. As it happens, I went to: http://www.census.gov/prod/www/abs/decennial/1790.html and looked in the wrong place. I opened the 1785. The 1790 is there, as well as an Index which takes forever to open but is worth it. Thanks so very much for your help in solving this.
