Chocy and other Listmates, This is old information that has been passed around for years without anyone challenging it until Johnita Malone and I stood up and said it was wrong back in 2000. Many agreed with us. Johnita, since deceased, was a seasoned researcher and not only hired an expert in the German language to examine the baptismal records of Lischy with her but talked to the couple that transcribed his records and published them. They all agreed that there was an error in the records. Johnita descends from the Jacob lineage and my husband Russell descends from the John lineage. Unfortunately Johnita has since passed away. We found the death date of 1793 for John Bushong Jr among the research that Mary Feller Wickes did back in the 1920's. I guess no one bothered to really look at her research very closely. Back in 1988 Geraldine W. Baker of Indianapolis, Indiana said that the baptismal record for Johann Jacob Buschong was her ancestor John Bushong Jr. but was shot down by someone from the Bushong/Bossert lineage. Geraldine was even willing to be nice and compromise saying possibly they were twins named Johann and Jacob but was shot down over that too. Geraldine gave up. Geraldine descends from John Bushong and Magdalena Bauserman through from Andrew Jackson Bushong married to Catharine Homsher the same lineage as my husband Russell. So for years there has been a disagreement with a few researchers over the Johann Jacob Bushong born 16 February 1754 in York County, Pennsylvania even though there is a preponderance of evidence that Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert was probably born late 1754 and baptized 16 February 1755 to Jacob Bushong and wife Julianna Weigel. This birth range and baptismal record would not conflict with Jacob's pension application in May 1818 where he stated he was 64 years of age when he applied. He could have even been off a year on his age as many were back then. Simply stated, Jacob Bushong is known as Jacob and is the son of Jacob Bushong and Juliana Weigel who was born 16 February 1755 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The entry for his birth was incorrectly recorded under the Mueller name probably by a clerk. He is found living with his father Jacob Sr in Rockingham County, Virginia in the 1783 tax records. He left Virginia in 1806 and went to Ohio. Johann Jacob Buschong, known as John is the son of Johannes Bushong and wife Elisabetha Sprenckel. He was born 16 February 1754 in York County, Pennsylvania and baptized 18 February 1754 in York County, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Wendel and stayed in Virginia although he also owned property in York County, Pennsylvania. Here are the late Johnita's words concerning this issue: RESEARCH OF JOHNITA MALONE,(NOW DECEASED) IN HER OWN WORDS: 6 April 2000 I agree that John Jacob Bushong who married Elizabeth Windle was the son of JOHN BUSHONG and ELIZABETHA SPRINCKEL. It would certainly appear that Jacob Bushong who married Eva Catherine Bossert is the son of Jacob Bushong and Juliana Weigel. There is a baptism record for what appears to be this Jacob Bushong although it has been miswritten by the minister. It follows: 16 Feb 1755. Lischy's Private Record, pg 28. den 16 Febr. 1755. Infantes - Jacob; Parentes - Jacob Mueller and Jullianna; Testes - Michel Welsch and Barbara. #507. (NOTE: From researcher, Eckhard Hensel, 111 Fisherman's Lane, Wrightsville, PA 17368: "Lischy's Private Record: Index. Now comes the clincher: Index says Bouchon on page 28 (actually Index says p. 29 but is 1 page "off".) But when you look in the text, there is no Bouchon. Then I decided to look at the first names of the parents, Jacob and Juliana, and sure enough there they are, Jacob and Julianna, but under the surname "Mueller". Either Rev. Lischy or later the transcriber/indexer or both, made errors on this entry. One possible explanation for the error is that there is another Mueller right above this entry. The son is called Jacob only, not John Jacob like the other in 1754. So this must be your Jacob. Sponsor is Michel Welsch. I also double checked through all the Muellers. Result: There is no Jacob and Julianna Mueller, nor any other Jacob Julianna combination as parents anywhere in that time period.") Upon looking at the original record, we find that Rev. Lishcy has written Mueller but probably in error, since there is no other Jacob and Julliana Mueller mentioned in Rev. Lischy's records but there are other records of Jacob and Julliana Bouchon, such as these that follow: 13 Apr 1755. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 232. Anna Margreth daughter of Jacob and Juliana Bouchon, was baptized 13 Apr 1755; sponsors: Michel Weiter and Elisabeth Weigel. 22 Aug 1756. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 238. Elisabeth daughter of Jacob and Jullianna Bouchon, was baptized 22 Aug 1756; sponsors: Elisabeth Weigel. 16 Dec 1759. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 250. Magdelena daughter of Jacob and Julianna Bouchon, was baptized 16 Dec 1759; sponsors: John Bouchon and Elisabeth. The Jacob, son of Jacob and Julliana, was baptized in 1755 but could have been born quite a bit earlier possibly as early as 1754. Jacob may have had occasion to meet and marry Eva Catherine Bossert because his father owned land in Pendleton Co., VA. 3 Apr 1812. Augusta County, VA., Will Book 11, pgs 124-126. Agreeable to an order of Court we the appraisers have made an Inventory of the Property of Jacob Bushong dec'd this third day of April one thousand eight hundred and twelf and is as follows viz. In addition to personal estate inventory, the following is included: 20 acres of land, bond on Phillip Null for $100; note on Phillip Null of $65 with interest from 16 Mar 1803; note on Phillip Null for $1 with interest from 16 Apr 1810; Bond on James Summers of twenty pounds with interest from 3 Feb 1812; note on Mathis Ansen of 19 pounds 13 shillings with interest from 17 Aug 1805; one bond on Mathias Ansen of $552 with interest from 14 Sep 1808; note on John Herrington $200 with interest from 25 Sep 1810; balance of bond on Benjamin Eagle of 54 pounds 18 shillings and 7 pence with interest from 1 Sep 1806; balance of a bond on Philip Miller of 157 pounds 18 shillings and 11 pence with interest from 3 Mar 1810; balance of bond on George Weathers of 2 pounds 13 shillings and 5 pence with interest from 29 Jul 1811; note on Phillip Edslin of 4 pounds 17 shillings with interest from 27 Nov 1794; bond on Phillip Null of 490 with interest from 19 Mar 1799; bond on Phillip Harris by balance due of 296 pounds 16 shillings and 5 pence with interest from 15 Feb 1812; To an article of agreement between Jacob Bushong dec'd and Henry Accord in the purchase of a plantation in Pendleton County the said Accord is indebted to the estate of Jacob Bushong dec'd the sum of two hundred & fifty pounds bearing interest from the different installments described in the said Article bearing date the 5th day of November 1806. Appraisers - James Kirk, Daniel Fall, Christian Hottel. Ordered recorded on 22 Jun 1812. This Jacob and Julliana Bushong's children have been hard to trace since Jacob did not mention all his children's names in his will. A few hints are available in his estate records but not all of his 11 heirs have been found. Johnita P. Malone ---------------------- To add to this.
