    1. [VASHENAN] John Bushong and his wives - Virginia
    2. Chocy and Listmates, The various John's in the Virginia area are enough to make anyone's head spin. But fortunately we have enough documents to straighten out some. We have assigned #1, #2, and #3 to the various John Bushongs to help keep them straight. I have no knowledge of who the Peter CLEM married to Catherine KENERLEY (think this should be KNIESLY) with the bondsman: John KINSLEY (think this should be KNIESLY). There might have been more then one Peter Clem and this guy, as far as I know, was not the same as Peter Clem who married Catharine Ruffner and left her a widow to marry #3 John Bushong. ------------------------- LINEAGE: #1 John Bushong and Elizabeth Sprenckel #2 John Bushong (Jr.) and Elizabeth Wendel #3 John Bushong and Magdalena Bauserman/Bozman. He later married widow Catharine (Ruffner) Clem. Note: #2 John Bushong died in 1793, Manchester, York Co. PA {As recorded by Mary Feller Wickes} #3 John Bushong died in 1839, Shenandoah County, VA ----------------------------- #2 JOHN BUSHONG (Referred to as Jr in some documents) Exhibit A - Baptism: 16 February 1754, York County, Pennsylvania, son of #1 Johannes and Elisabetha No date of birth listed (Copied directly from original microfilmed record) Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, York, York County, Pennsylvania Johannes Buschong h. w. Elisabetha Johann Jacob: With: Wilhelm Sprenckel & h. w. Catharine. NOTE: He did NOT use a "call" name of Jacob as many have reported but went by John, a proven idiosyncrasy of this particular family through many generations down. The boys seem to have minds of their own and wanted to chose their own names when they got old enough to talk. Had to be something in the genes. ------------------------------- NOTE: We are adding this information only because it should clarify things a lot, I hope, the difference between #2 John Bushong and the Jacob Bushong who has been erroneously assigned the baptismal record in 1754. Here is the baptismal for Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert 16 Feb 1755. Lischy's Private Record, pg 28. den 16 Febr. 1755. Infantes - Jacob; Parentes - Jacob Muller and Jullianna; Testes - Michel Welsch and Barbara. #507. (NOTE: From researcher, Eckhard Hensel, 111 Fisherman's Lane, Wrightsville, PA 17368: "Lischy's Private Record: Index. Now comes the clincher: Index says Bouchon on page 28 (actually Index says p. 29 but is 1 page "off".) But when you look in the text, there is no Bouchon. Then I decided to look at the first names of the parents, Jacob and Juliana, and sure enough there they are, Jacob and Julianna, but under the surname "Mueller". Either Rev. Lischy or later the transcriber/indexer or both, made errors on this entry. One possible explanation for the error is that there is another Mueller right above this entry. The son is called Jacob only, not John Jacob like the other in 1754. So this must be your Jacob. Sponsor is Michel Welsch. I also double checked through all the Muellers. Result: There is no Jacob and Julianna Mueller, nor any other Jacob Julianna combination as parents anywhere in that time period.") Upon looking at the original record, we find that Rev. Lishcy has written Mueller but probably in error, since there is no other Jacob and Julliana Mueller mentioned in Rev. Lischy's records but there are other records of Jacob and Julliana Bouchon. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Exhibit B - Revolutionary War Record #1 and #2 John Bushongs Third Battalion of the Associators, Organized in 1775 by Colonel Richard McAllister, of Hanover, who commanded the Second Pennsylvania Regiment of the flying Camp. The Third Battalion was commanded by Colonel David Jameson. There were two Bushongs that served in this unit, #1 Father Lt. John Bushong and #2 Son John Bushong. The father served under Captain Godfrey Fry as First Lieutenant #1 John Bushong and the son #2 John Bushong served in the Sixth Company under his Uncle Captain George Long as a Private along with another family member Uncle Private Philip Grim. George Long married Catharine Sprenckel, d/o of Wilhelm & Catharine, witnesses of above baptismal. John Bushong Sr. married Elisabetha Sprenckel, d/o of Wilhelm & Catharine and parents of above child being baptized in 1754. NOTE: In the pension application for Jacob Bushong of the 1755 baptismal record, Jacob stated he was 64 years of age and served in 1780 in Colonel Bluefords Regiment in Virginia line in the company of Captain Francis Cowherd as a soldier and gunsmith. He is not on any list of the Third Battalion of the Associators where the Sprenckel and Bushong family are listed. The application was date 15 May 1818 and his age was within the year 1754-55 to prove the baptismal record of 1755 as his. ---------------------------------------------- Exhibit C - Marriage - Frederick County, Virginia - #2 John Bushong to Elizabeth Wendel Frederick County Virginia Marriage Records 27 November 1778 Elizabeth Weddin and John Bousom {Elizabeth Wendel and John Bushong} NOTE: First born son #3 John Bushong born 19 January 1781 as recorded in family Bible. ---------------------------------------------------- Exhibit D - Bible Record of #3 John Bushong and second wife Catharine (Ruffner) Clem The Bible was published in 1833 so #3 John Bushong filled out the family pages after his second marriage in 1833 and probably after the birth of his daughter Sarah born in 1834. Second wife Catharine could not write as witnessed by her Will written 2 December 1840 in Page County, where she signed her name with an X mark. I was sent a photo copy of the pages of the original Bible back in 1997 by Adelaide Bushong Houghton Daily who is a descendant through John and Magdalena Bushong's son William Bushong, who married Rachel Clem.I will be more than happy to send copies of the pages to anyone who is interested.
