Some of the counties have been scanned including Shenandoah County but some have not. Hopefully some day they will do all of them. One can only hope. Gloria

    3. Hi Julie, Is only the index online? I found a case in the index I am interested in, it says "scanned images available online," but there is no link to view the images. Can the actual image be viewed? Thanks for your help. 3. Thanks. Meanwhile I had saved it to a pdf file and printed out one page AND now I found this one of 78 pages http://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/full_case_detail.asp?CFN=171-1895-098#img and when I saved it all I got was one page. I was looking at some of the pages and it looks really interesting. Something about not in the state and also the word escaped and others and I think it said that Joseph Ludwig was the brother or either Issac or David hence ending my brick wall (I think) of whether my gr gr grandfather Joseph Ludwig was the son of Philp Ludwig/Ludwick and Martha Dodson. Will have to read it all very carefully. I just don't want to have to save 78 pages individually. 2. {Lisa, It was not uncommon for some of the Valley people to have had two homes. One in Virginia and one in Pennsylvania. John Bushong certainly did. He owned property in York and Lancaster Counties in Pennsylvania and in Shenandoah in Virginia. His will was written in Pennsylvania and refers to his property in Shenandoah County, VA. He is buried in PA.} YOU ASKED: If he was born in PA would he have fought for PA? {No, not necessarily} YOU SAID: The birth and death dates fall nicely into our time frame to rule him out. His birth date was Jun 4, 1774 and died Apr 26, 1849. Is there another possible reason that he could be buried in York Co., PA? Or do you think this is a different Peter Wilt? {I do remember seeing this Peter Wilt and thinking that he might be the same one. I would certainly explore this possibility.} {Just remember he married twice so the record in Pennsylvania might not reflect the second wife. Sometimes the older children resented the father's second wife and any children born of that marriage.} Good luck. And report back when you find your answers. Gloria B

    2. Hello, I want to thank everyone who helped me with my WILT family. This has been a tremendous gift to me. I had worked for years on this side to no avail. I just had not asked the right questions to the right people, obviously. I had spent hours in my local library pouring thru all the microfilms I could get thru interlibrary loan from Richmond for Shenandoah Co. Now I can start all over with Rockingham Co and I am excited to possibly find what I am looking for here. Gloria, I would like to ask you...I found a 'Record of Burial Place of Veteran' record for a Peter WILT from the war of 1812, but its for Pennsylvania. Peter was in Rockingham Co, VA by 1812. If he was born in PA would he have fought for PA? The birth and death dates fall nicely into our time frame to rule him out. His birth date was Jun 4, 1774 and died Apr 26, 1849. Is there another possible reason that he could be buried in York Co., PA? Or do you think this is a diffrent Peter Wilt? I will be looking for microfilms of wills and land records etc.. which might give me a clue but I thought I would ask. Thanks again everyone. 2. Gloria, Your absolutely right on the location: 1815 Rockingham County, Virginia Landowners Peter WITT; forrest County line; 21 miles northeast of the county courthouse at Harrisonburg. Many of the Samuel and Lydia WITT's children's marriages are recorded in the Shenandoah County, Virginia marriage books. Chocy

    2. Thanks to Lena Fuller's book, I was able to locate Peter Wilt's 50 acres. For those of you who have the book, it is in the Timberville Quadrangle. In Shenandoah County the property touches that of Reuben Moore and Conrad Hulver/Holver's two pieces. Wish someone would do Rockingham County the way Lena did. Thanks Lena. A big hug to you and to Harry Long who paved the way for you!! Gloria B.

    2. Lisa and Listmates, Peter Wilt is in the Northern Neck Land Grants: Grantee: Peter Wilt 8 August 1796 Location: Shenandoah County, Virginia Description: 50 acres in the counties of Shenandoah and Rockingham on the North Mountain adjoining Michi Hannigan, George Richards, & c. Peter Wilt's property was probably on the county lines and that explains why he was enumerated in Rockingham County and not Shenandoah but has records at Solomon's Church. Gloria Bushong
