    3. I am looking for a death date for ANGELA AMANDA GORDON BOYD who married THOMAS BOYD, also of Browntown, Warren County. He was the son of Eugene Franklin and Laura Miles Trail Boyd, and in the 1900 census says he was born May 1887. I don't have a marriage date for Thomas and Amanda either. I would guess they married abt. 1917 or 1918. (Amanda's nicknames were Mandy and Angie for Angela) Does anyone have any more information? 1. [VASHENAN] Joseph Taylor
    2. I am interested in a Joseph Taylor (wife Elizabeth) who was in Shenandoah County. He was a bondman for the marriage of Catherine Willard and Christian Kulman in 1821. He was the bondsman for Anthony Wellard/WIllard and Elizabeth Roland in 1820. Anthony Willard was also mentioned in the 1841 Will of Mrs. Elizabeth Taylor. Looking for a connection. ---- "Garlock wrote: ============= From: Mary Lou Garlock <mlgarloc@liberty.edu<mailto:mlgarloc@liberty.edu>> Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2010 20:39:34 -0500 To: "paton42@shentel.co<mailto:paton42@shentel.co>," Cc: Mary Lou Garlock <mlgarloc@liberty.edu<mailto:mlgarloc@liberty.edu>> Subject: TAYLOR HISTORY - FT. VALLEY Pat, Thanks for your message about Jeanette's book and the names Taylor, Munch, and Barr. Since I e-mailed with this question, I have called Jeanette and talked with her. She said that the new book is more a history book than one on genealogy. I talked to Jeanette in person at her home a few years ago when we were in Ft. Valley trying to research these names in our family. If you ever hear of anyone who has Zachary Taylor family history, I would be very interested in talking with that person. We have from Zachary Taylor and forward, but have only been able to go back as far as his father, James Taylor. And there we get stuck. What we know is James, Zachary, Oscar, Beatrice Taylor – and then me. I was born in 1934 in Washington, DC to Beatrice Taylor Gardner, daughter of Oscar Taylor and Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Barr. One of my fondest childhood memories is of going "up in the country" to Uncle Stanley and Aunt Lucy Barr's farm. We live in Lynchburg, VA and I teach at Liberty University. Thanks for taking time to answer my question. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! 1. Re: [VASHENAN] Girl's baseball team in 1893, Woodstock, Virginia
    2. I have researched baseball in the 1890's in several counties in the Shenandoah Valley (Shenandoah being one of those counties), when baseball truly WAS the national pastime. My take on the location of this game, and again, this is my impression, is that Bushong's field was a field owned by the Bushong family and adjacent to Indian Springs, "the new park, on the south edge of town." They often described the location using the name of the property owner, since there were very few, if any "baseball fields" per se, with backstop, fences, bleachers, etc., during this time period. All they needed was reasonably flat ground and open space. Again I will mention, this is my opinion based upon research and should, in no way, be taken as documented fact. If you look at the newspapers during this decade during the spring and summer months, you'll see that there were teams from Woodstock, Edinburg, Strasburg, Winchester, Front Royal and other towns and villages in the valley, they were part of the Valley League. A Valley League exists today, although I do not know if the current league has any direct connection to the league of the 1890's. There is one particular article, circa 1896, that describes a game between the teams from Woodstock and Edinburg, which was decided by a controversial umpire's call at the end of the game. The article describes the fact that the umpire was chased from the field to the train that took him from Edinburg back to Woodstock. They did take their baseball seriously in those days. 1. Re: [VASHENAN] John Bushong and his wives - Virginia
    2. Chocy and Listmates, One thing I know I have done with this post is totally confuse everyone since I posted back in July 2010 that John Bushong was married twice: M/1: Elizabeth Sprenckel M/2: Elizabeth Wendel/Windle That would be a simple solution to the whole problem except we have not been able to prove that the two John's are one and the same totally since there are a few discrepancies that we never could work out. There is still John Bushong married to Elizabeth Rogers and John Bushong/Bosang married to Elizabeth Burk to work into the scenario so that is why for the moment, I have to go with how the documents currently read which were in the current post. What we DO know is that John Bushong born 1754, died 1793, married Elizabeth Wendel/Windle and had a son named John born 1781, died 1839 and that the John known as John Jr. served in the Revolutionary War under George Long. And Jacob Bushong is the son of Jacob Bushong and Juliana Weigel. That we have proven. We believe that the younger John born 1781 served in the War of 1812. I pray someday that the correct documents would be revealed and all would be clear. Gloria

    1. [VASHENAN] John Bushong and his wives - Virginia
    2. Chocy and Listmates, The various John's in the Virginia area are enough to make anyone's head spin. But fortunately we have enough documents to straighten out some. We have assigned #1, #2, and #3 to the various John Bushongs to help keep them straight. I have no knowledge of who the Peter CLEM married to Catherine KENERLEY (think this should be KNIESLY) with the bondsman: John KINSLEY (think this should be KNIESLY). There might have been more then one Peter Clem and this guy, as far as I know, was not the same as Peter Clem who married Catharine Ruffner and left her a widow to marry #3 John Bushong. ------------------------- LINEAGE: #1 John Bushong and Elizabeth Sprenckel #2 John Bushong (Jr.) and Elizabeth Wendel #3 John Bushong and Magdalena Bauserman/Bozman. He later married widow Catharine (Ruffner) Clem. Note: #2 John Bushong died in 1793, Manchester, York Co. PA {As recorded by Mary Feller Wickes} #3 John Bushong died in 1839, Shenandoah County, VA ----------------------------- #2 JOHN BUSHONG (Referred to as Jr in some documents) Exhibit A - Baptism: 16 February 1754, York County, Pennsylvania, son of #1 Johannes and Elisabetha No date of birth listed (Copied directly from original microfilmed record) Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, York, York County, Pennsylvania Johannes Buschong h. w. Elisabetha Johann Jacob: With: Wilhelm Sprenckel & h. w. Catharine. NOTE: He did NOT use a "call" name of Jacob as many have reported but went by John, a proven idiosyncrasy of this particular family through many generations down. The boys seem to have minds of their own and wanted to chose their own names when they got old enough to talk. Had to be something in the genes. ------------------------------- NOTE: We are adding this information only because it should clarify things a lot, I hope, the difference between #2 John Bushong and the Jacob Bushong who has been erroneously assigned the baptismal record in 1754. Here is the baptismal for Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert 16 Feb 1755. Lischy's Private Record, pg 28. den 16 Febr. 1755. Infantes - Jacob; Parentes - Jacob Muller and Jullianna; Testes - Michel Welsch and Barbara. #507. (NOTE: From researcher, Eckhard Hensel, 111 Fisherman's Lane, Wrightsville, PA 17368: "Lischy's Private Record: Index. Now comes the clincher: Index says Bouchon on page 28 (actually Index says p. 29 but is 1 page "off".) But when you look in the text, there is no Bouchon. Then I decided to look at the first names of the parents, Jacob and Juliana, and sure enough there they are, Jacob and Julianna, but under the surname "Mueller". Either Rev. Lischy or later the transcriber/indexer or both, made errors on this entry. One possible explanation for the error is that there is another Mueller right above this entry. The son is called Jacob only, not John Jacob like the other in 1754. So this must be your Jacob. Sponsor is Michel Welsch. I also double checked through all the Muellers. Result: There is no Jacob and Julianna Mueller, nor any other Jacob Julianna combination as parents anywhere in that time period.") Upon looking at the original record, we find that Rev. Lishcy has written Mueller but probably in error, since there is no other Jacob and Julliana Mueller mentioned in Rev. Lischy's records but there are other records of Jacob and Julliana Bouchon. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Exhibit B - Revolutionary War Record #1 and #2 John Bushongs Third Battalion of the Associators, Organized in 1775 by Colonel Richard McAllister, of Hanover, who commanded the Second Pennsylvania Regiment of the flying Camp. The Third Battalion was commanded by Colonel David Jameson. There were two Bushongs that served in this unit, #1 Father Lt. John Bushong and #2 Son John Bushong. The father served under Captain Godfrey Fry as First Lieutenant #1 John Bushong and the son #2 John Bushong served in the Sixth Company under his Uncle Captain George Long as a Private along with another family member Uncle Private Philip Grim. George Long married Catharine Sprenckel, d/o of Wilhelm & Catharine, witnesses of above baptismal. John Bushong Sr. married Elisabetha Sprenckel, d/o of Wilhelm & Catharine and parents of above child being baptized in 1754. NOTE: In the pension application for Jacob Bushong of the 1755 baptismal record, Jacob stated he was 64 years of age and served in 1780 in Colonel Bluefords Regiment in Virginia line in the company of Captain Francis Cowherd as a soldier and gunsmith. He is not on any list of the Third Battalion of the Associators where the Sprenckel and Bushong family are listed. The application was date 15 May 1818 and his age was within the year 1754-55 to prove the baptismal record of 1755 as his. ---------------------------------------------- Exhibit C - Marriage - Frederick County, Virginia - #2 John Bushong to Elizabeth Wendel Frederick County Virginia Marriage Records 27 November 1778 Elizabeth Weddin and John Bousom {Elizabeth Wendel and John Bushong} NOTE: First born son #3 John Bushong born 19 January 1781 as recorded in family Bible. ---------------------------------------------------- Exhibit D - Bible Record of #3 John Bushong and second wife Catharine (Ruffner) Clem The Bible was published in 1833 so #3 John Bushong filled out the family pages after his second marriage in 1833 and probably after the birth of his daughter Sarah born in 1834. 2. Chocy, I just saw your e-mail and I am about to sign off for the night. My family will be here in a few minutes for dinner and to celebrate my granddaughter Kaylee Elizabeth Bushong's 13th birthday. She was a Valentine baby. I'll get back to you tomorrow. One question though. Where did you get the dates of birth and death for John Bushong (1760-1839) from? More tomorrow. Gloria

    2. Chocy Brown
    3. Gloria, The birth year is my est. based on the "fact" his first "known" child, John BUSHONG, Jr. was born on 19 Jan 1781. I figure they were married in early 1780. No birth control. The preference age for a German male to marry is 22 years; however, 18 to 22 years is more realistic----so I give him to be 20 years old at the time of marriage and Elizabeth no more than 18 years old at the time of marriage. SO----20 years old at the time of a 1780 marriage= John BUSHONG born ca.. 1760. The death year is your est. which I agree with considering the marriage bondman's issues that you described plus that would have him to be approximately 79 years old when he died. What bothers me is that number one wife: Elizabeth probably died after the birth of John BUSHONG in Jan of 1781 OR there are more unknown children OR she was unable to have more children over the rest of her life. Based on the birth dates of number two wife: Magdalene BAUSERMAN's children starting in about 1802 for Lucy, the couple were married about 1801----the question becomes "Did John stay single aka widowed from 1781 until 1801, in the prime of his life, with a child to raise? That is what bothers me. SEE those BUSHONGs do drive you crazy! Chocy

Date: Mon, 14 Feb 2011 11:55:09 -0800 Gloria, Mark me offically "Crazy"; I need some straightening out here --- I think! I have: John BUSHONG (1760-1839) Married No. 1: M: ca 1780 to Elizabeth the mother of John BUSHONG, Jr.., born 19 Jan 1781 per family bible records. Married No. 2: M: ca 1801 to Magdalene BAUSERMAN, deceased bef. writing of her father, Wm. BAUSERMAN, Sr. on 27 Sep 1832 that names her wife of John BUSHONG. Married No. 3. M: ca 1833 to Catherine RUFFNER. (marriage date estimated by birthdate of their child: Sarah BUSHONG on 25 Jun 1834 NOW this is I where I am lost: Peter CLEM the son of David and Elizabeth (SIEBERT) CLEM is the "Peter CLEM" that I have as the husband of the above Catherine RUFFNER whose will of 1842 is written in the name of Catherine BUSHONG. So, that indicates that Peter CLEM was her first husband. NOW, I have: Peter CLEM married to Catherine KENERLEY (think this should be KNIESLY) with the bondsman: John KINSLEY (think this should be KNIESLY) This sounds like "Powel's Big Fort" to me and wondered if you know this couple: Peter CLEM-Catherine KNIESLY (or ?) 2. Vashenan Listmates, Sometimes these Bushongs, all with the same names, make me a little crazy. I need to correct one statement below. It should read: 1832 - Agreement between John Bushong and BROTHER-IN-LAW John Brown. AND No, we don't believe that this John Brown is the one they hung around the Civil War! Also this was the time frame that this John Bushong married for a second time to widow Catharine (Ruffner )Clem who lived in Page County for awhile. 2. Chocy and other Listmates, This is old information that has been passed around for years without anyone challenging it until Johnita Malone and I stood up and said it was wrong back in 2000. Many agreed with us. Johnita, since deceased, was a seasoned researcher and not only hired an expert in the German language to examine the baptismal records of Lischy with her but talked to the couple that transcribed his records and published them. They all agreed that there was an error in the records. Johnita descends from the Jacob lineage and my husband Russell descends from the John lineage. Unfortunately Johnita has since passed away. We found the death date of 1793 for John Bushong Jr among the research that Mary Feller Wickes did back in the 1920's. I guess no one bothered to really look at her research very closely. Back in 1988 Geraldine W. Baker of Indianapolis, Indiana said that the baptismal record for Johann Jacob Buschong was her ancestor John Bushong Jr. but was shot down by someone from the Bushong/Bossert lineage. Geraldine was even willing to be nice and compromise saying possibly they were twins named Johann and Jacob but was shot down over that too. Geraldine gave up. Geraldine descends from John Bushong and Magdalena Bauserman through from Andrew Jackson Bushong married to Catharine Homsher the same lineage as my husband Russell. So for years there has been a disagreement with a few researchers over the Johann Jacob Bushong born 16 February 1754 in York County, Pennsylvania even though there is a preponderance of evidence that Jacob Bushong married to Eve Bossert was probably born late 1754 and baptized 16 February 1755 to Jacob Bushong and wife Julianna Weigel. This birth range and baptismal record would not conflict with Jacob's pension application in May 1818 where he stated he was 64 years of age when he applied. He could have even been off a year on his age as many were back then. Simply stated, Jacob Bushong is known as Jacob and is the son of Jacob Bushong and Juliana Weigel who was born 16 February 1755 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The entry for his birth was incorrectly recorded under the Mueller name probably by a clerk. He is found living with his father Jacob Sr in Rockingham County, Virginia in the 1783 tax records. He left Virginia in 1806 and went to Ohio. Johann Jacob Buschong, known as John is the son of Johannes Bushong and wife Elisabetha Sprenckel. He was born 16 February 1754 in York County, Pennsylvania and baptized 18 February 1754 in York County, Pennsylvania. He married Elizabeth Wendel and stayed in Virginia although he also owned property in York County, Pennsylvania. Here are the late Johnita's words concerning this issue: RESEARCH OF JOHNITA MALONE,(NOW DECEASED) IN HER OWN WORDS: 6 April 2000 I agree that John Jacob Bushong who married Elizabeth Windle was the son of JOHN BUSHONG and ELIZABETHA SPRINCKEL. It would certainly appear that Jacob Bushong who married Eva Catherine Bossert is the son of Jacob Bushong and Juliana Weigel. There is a baptism record for what appears to be this Jacob Bushong although it has been miswritten by the minister. It follows: 16 Feb 1755. Lischy's Private Record, pg 28. den 16 Febr. 1755. Infantes - Jacob; Parentes - Jacob Mueller and Jullianna; Testes - Michel Welsch and Barbara. Lischy's records but there are other records of Jacob and Julliana Bouchon, such as these that follow: 13 Apr 1755. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 232. Anna Margreth daughter of Jacob and Juliana Bouchon, was baptized 13 Apr 1755; sponsors: Michel Weiter and Elisabeth Weigel. 22 Aug 1756. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 238. Elisabeth daughter of Jacob and Jullianna Bouchon, was baptized 22 Aug 1756; sponsors: Elisabeth Weigel. 16 Dec 1759. York County, Pennsylvania Church Records of the 18th Century, Volume 3, by Marlene S. Bates and F. Edward Wright, Jacob Lischy's Private Pastoral Record, pg 250. Magdelena daughter of Jacob and Julianna Bouchon, was baptized 16 Dec 1759; sponsors: John Bouchon and Elisabeth. The Jacob, son of Jacob and Julliana, was baptized in 1755 but could have been born quite a bit earlier possibly as early as 1754. Jacob may have had occasion to meet and marry Eva Catherine Bossert because his father owned land in Pendleton Co., VA. 3 Apr 1812. Augusta County, VA., Will Book 11, pgs 124-126. Agreeable to an order of Court we the appraisers have made an Inventory of the Property of Jacob Bushong dec'd this third day of April one thousand eight hundred and twelf and is as follows viz. (Inventory follows). In addition to personal estate inventory, the following is included: 20 acres of land, bond on Phillip Null for $100; note on Phillip Null of $65 with interest from 16 Mar 1803; note on Phillip Null for $1 with interest from 16 Apr 1810; Bond on James Summers of twenty pounds with interest from 3 Feb 1812; note on Mathis Ansen of 19 pounds 13 shillings with interest from 17 Aug 1805; one bond on Mathias Ansen of $552 with interest from 14 Sep 1808; note on John Herrington $200 with interest from 25 Sep 1810; balance of bond on Benjamin Eagle of 54 pounds 18 shillings and 7 pence with interest from 1 Sep 1806; balance of a bond on Philip Miller of 157 pounds 18 shillings and 11 pence with interest from 3 Mar 1810; balance of bond on George Weathers of 2 pounds 13 shillings and 5 pence with interest from 29 Jul 1811; note on Phillip Edslin of 4 pounds 17 shillings with interest from 27 Nov 1794; bond on Phillip Null of 490 with interest from 19 Mar 1799; bond on Phillip Harris by balance due of 296 pounds 16 shillings and 5 pence with interest from 15 Feb 1812; To an article of agreement between Jacob Bushong dec'd and Henry Accord in the purchase of a plantation in Pendleton County the said Accord is indebted to the estate of Jacob Bushong dec'd the sum of two hundred & fifty pounds bearing interest from the different installments described in the said Article bearing date the 5th day of November 1806. Appraisers - James Kirk, Daniel Fall, Christian Hottel. Ordered recorded on 22 Jun 1812. This Jacob and Julliana Bushong's children have been hard to trace since Jacob did not mention all his children's names in his will. A few hints are available in his estate records but not all of his 11 heirs have been found. Johnita P. Malone ---------------------- To add to this.
