Thanks for sending that Holmes information in Frederick Co. I think my gr grandparents did not have headstones and I will never find them. They both died of TB. I wonder if they were in a TB hospital or something? I think I remember hearing of one around there. It may have been In WV. I will keep looking. Would anyone have a copy of "Muster Rolls of the Virginia Militia in the War of 1812"? I'm sending for Henry Marshall's war and pension record. I would like to be able to give the Archives folks as much information as possible. The online card index references Henry Marshall and Muster Roll 488. Thanks, Rick Monroe
In 1807 Phinehas Pierce and Francis Pierce are enumerated in Franklin Co., OH. Do these names sound familiar to anyone from Shenandoah Co. Is anyone researching the name of Pierce?
In the listing of marriages for Shenandoah Co. it list the following: Blanche May Henry, age 20, Father William H. Henry married John Christly Miller age 40, Father George Miller - Mother (?) Catharine E. 24 Jul 1911 Does anyone know anything about this Blanche Henry's father? The obituary for Elmer Edward Henry in Madison Co., OH in 1935 list a Blanche Henry as a surviving relative.
Interesting Diane, You mentioned the migration from Ohio Westward. My David Russell, from Gooney Run area of Shen. Co. settled first in Muskinghum Co, OH.. Licking Co, OH .. then went to Vermillion Co, IND. which is adjacent to Vermillion Co, IL. There were also Slaters & a Crown family who migrated from MD to Shen. Co, VA to the above counties in Ohio and then to Vermillion Co, IND. Makes you wonder if they followed a path you mention. David Russell and the Slaters were in Verm. Co. IN for the 1830 Census. The Crown family remained in Ohio. Thanks .. Shirley S. > Rosemary, > I hope the following is of some help. I'm researching the Henry's of Pickaway Co., OH that came from Virginia. Moses Henry married a Martha Maneary in Shenandoah Co., 21 Apr. 1798 and I find a Hugh Maneary in Pickaway Co., OH in 1810. Does anyone have any info on the Maneary or Manery family? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
I did a quick check and found a query on the Pickaway site where an individual states that "Samuel Baty is listed in the 1820 Pickaway Co., OH census". I also found the following on ancestry.com but I do not have any other info on this family. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Rosemary, I hope the following is of some help. This is what I have on John LEWIN. He apparently settled in Harrison Twp. and according to the Pickaway Co. History (Pg. 123) he was there by 1810 and his marriage was the 1st one recorded in Harrison Twp. He was married by a Squire James DENNY to Salome CLUTTER, both of whom arrived with William RENICK. The story of William RENICK, the well known cattle man, is well documented in Franklin, Pickaway, and I think Ross Co., OH histories. I also found a marriage record for Enoch Henry (also of VA) who married a Polly Lewin in 1807 in Franklin Co. which suggest there were Lewin's in the area prior to 1810. I believe this is the Enoch Henry from the "Gooney Run" area that came to Ohio possibly with a Moses, William, and John. Many settlers from Gallia, Ross, Pickaway, Franklin, and Madison Co., OH joined together in 1825 in Pickaway Co. before going west. Many settled in Indiana and some in Piatt Co., IL. I just checked and there is a John A Lewin in Vermilion Co., IL in 1830, pg. 110, No Twp. Listed. There is probably a lot more info in Pickaway. The folks at the Pickaway Co. Genealogical Society are very helpful and even answer question via e-mail. Their rootsweb mailing list is very active. They also have a great website http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohpickaw/index.html you may want to check out. Hope this is helpful. If you have any info on Polly Lewin I'd surely appreciate it if you would let me know. I know nothing about her and believe she was my GGGGrandmother. Thanks. Is there a site where I can find cemeteries located close to "Gooney Run" and Browntown Va.? Please point me in the right direction. I would like to see if there are on-line listings for cemeteries close to this site that have Henry's buried there. Thanks.
Possibly as she may be the daugher of my gr gr gr William Holmes. I have not been able to put that family together but I am trying. I am confused about who is who. Are Joseph, William and Hugh realted? I know that Hugh bought property next to William Holmes in Shenandoah Co. Do you have any more on that? Thanks, Coral Coral Barker Allbee Digging and searching for my roots.
I have and Elizabeth Holmes who married Thomas Conner III in Frederick in 1790 something, I forget exact date and don't have my info handy. Is there a connection. Hello, Shenandoah County cemetery lists are located at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/cems2k2.html> on the Shenandoah County GenWeb site. They are listed alphabetically at this link and are listed by cemetery at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/cems2k.html>. THANK YOU! That was a lot of work for you to send all of those names. I really appreciate it. I have a feeling that the ones I really need had no headstones or they didn't last long so there is no record. I just keep digging. I will put these together and see if any of them are in the family. Thank you again!!! Coral Coral Barker Allbee Digging and searching for my roots.
