I just want to say thank you to everyone involved in this web site and tell you to please keep up the wonderful work that you do. I have been trying to fill in the "gaps" on my dad's side of the family for many years and joined your group about 2 years ago. Thanks to your group and Rick Monroe, all the "gaps" and more are now filled in. Thanks again to all you---I really love you guys and this is my way of kinda keeping up on things in the Shenandoa Valley. Pat Lambert May
Hi Jo Ann, A quick check of the Lutheran Church records do not show a birth/baptism for a Jacob Dilshaffer/Dilsheffer. The Dilshaver/ Smith families lived east of Strasburg towards what is now Warren County, VA. In what we call the Waterlick area at north end of Fort Valley. Or even into Page County area from Warren County towards Luray, Route 340 today. George had a large household of 11 soles in 1785. Were some of them Smith? Tax records will probably tell if he paid tax for them. Lena
Can anyone help me. I would like to find the birth of a Jacob Dulciver/dillsaver/dilsaver/dilshaver born 1784 in Shenandoah County, VA. His parents were from Maryland and they were members of the Lutheran Evangelical Church. Do anyone have church records or such so you could help me. Thank you Jo Ann in Kansas
WOW!!! I found 2 aunts there! Thanks. Hey Gang, I have a photo of a gentleman that may have been taken in Woodstock. There are no landmarks in the photo, only trees and him. I would guess that he is 75-85 years old and the photo was probably taken c. 1930 (maybe earlier based on the clothes he is wearing). It is possible that he is: Bejnamin F. Strosnider William Jordan Gillock or One of my Lamberts If anyone can help, or just wants to see the "old guy", let me know. Rick Monroe

Hello, I have some information on an Orndorff family from someone some years ago who was not blood related to me and lived at or near Cumberland, MD. If you are interested and if I can locate this document I can send it to you. Don't know if it is related to your group. Louise dsilvius@tlcdelivers.com wrote:Hello, Looking for any information on Joseph T. Orndorff (11 May 1861 - 30 Jul 1945) who married Sarah Cole (d. 16 Feb 1928). Parents of Joseph T. Am trying to connect to their grandson, Walter D. "Buck" Orndorff (25 Jul 1918 - 3 Dec 2000), who I believe to be a "cousin", but who was also, by marriage, an uncle. His mother was Ethel Mae Orndorff - first married to Solomon Orndorff (whom I have NO information on and who probably died in the 1920's) and second married to a LaFollette. This family is most likely descended from Henn zu Ohrndorff (circa 1560 - 1616) of Germany, whose descendants emigrated to America in the 1700's and located in Shenandoah County soon thereafter - per Daniel W. Bly in "From the Rhine to the Shenandoah." Any information appreciated on this family. thanks, Don *************************************************** Don Silvius Coordinator Shenandoah County VAGenWeb *************************************************** ==== VASHENAN Mailing List ==== Shenandoah Co VAGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/vashenan.html --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Hi, I am working on a revised edition of my book on the Kagey family history and am looking for "missing "cousins". If I have not previously spoken with you, please contact me. I know that there are several different branches of the Kagey family in the Valley area and would like to include as many as possible in my book. Thanks, Ken PS. Other family cousins welcome too.
In the Virginia Grant Listings it states: Grant X-617, 7 Nov, 1797. Moses Henry, assignee of Elijah Roye, 100 a. in Shenandoah Co. on Gimlet Mt. Adj. Nathan Job, the Manor Line. Does anyone know what "assignee" means?

I've been looking at the map on this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/shenmap.html . Can anyone tell me where Speedwell Furnace, Isabella Furnace, Gooney Manor, and the "Fork" were on this map. Maybe someone could tell me what they were close to. I would appreciate the assistance. Thanks.
A baseborn child took the name of the mother unless the father adopted him. ========Original Message======== Subj: [VASHENAN] Indentures and Guardianships Date: 3/13/2003 10:01:58 PM Eastern Standard Time From: <A HREF="mailto:diane.kittle@voyager.net">diane.kittle@voyager.net</A> To: <A HREF="mailto:VASHENAN-L@rootsweb.com">VASHENAN-L@rootsweb.com</A> Sent from the Internet (Details) I'm looking at the Indentures and Guardianships of children of Shenandoah Co. and would like to know if the last name of a "base born child" or "illegitimate child" was the name of the mother or father. Hey Don - I actually helped Raymond Sheffler take his genealogy which includes Jeremiah back to PA just a few weeks back. I have census information for Jeremiah and family. I'll forward you the email I sent Raymond. Don, A couple of years ago I looked at Family History Library's film - FHL US/CAN Film 1548900 - Virginia, Shenandoah - Poorhouses, etc. A short description is found here: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&columns=*%2C180%2C0&titleno=433698&disp=Alms_house_records%2C_1800-1899 As I remember it contained on a list of residents and log on purchases made by the Poorhouse from area farmers and merchants, etc. It was an interesting read because it listed supplies purchased and prices paid and named many area residents of the time. I don't recall the commissioners being named but it's possible that they are included. John
Hello: The 1887 personal property tax list of Shenandoah Co was taken by Commissioner Taverner Beale (List A) and Commissioner Charles Buck (List B). Does anyone know what geographical part of the county that each list covered? Thanks. John
