    3. Jim Schofield is correct about most of the information from the bonds appearing in transcriptions. But there are exceptions that make a look at the microfilm worth while. The bond of Isaac Pence and Lydia Weeks is included in Ashby's transcription, but Ashby did not include the "alias Shaver" that followed Lyida's name. The microfilm also is worth looking at for thedocuments that frequently accompany the bonds. Joseph Foltz gave consent for the marriage of his daughter Rebecca, "given under my hand in the Presents [sic] of my two Sons Joseph Foltz Jr George Foltz" Jim Funkhouser

    1. Re: [VASHENAN] Heritage Day
    2. I would agree with Jim, the day was a great success, but there were many more people involved than just myself, Jim included. We are going to schedule our SECOND annual event for the second Saturday in April of 2004. I am going to pass on something that was relayed to me that I think speaks for itself -- someone said that those who missed the event, really DID miss something good. Photos from Shenandoah County Heritage Day will soon be posted on the web site. Thanks to all who made this possible, and rather than list them individually and risk missing someone, I will leave it at that, because many people contributed to the event's success - all I did was present the idea. And if you didn't make it this year, we hope to see you next year in April. 2. Jim Artz
    3. In this humble person's opinion, the 1st Shenandoah Co. Rootsweb Heritage Days were a huge success!!!!! I thought the exhibits were very interesting and as plain as mine was, many people;e stopped by to observe and make comments. Those of you who were unable to participate missed a great show, with Re-enactors, old guns, interesting stories, many family trees, a small portion of the Morrison Studios material, ( abt. 10,000 old pictures) and many other items. Next year will be even better. Don and all the support folks did an outstanding job. ceya Jim

    2. Jim Scofield
    3. The original marriage bonds that I have seen give no more information than what is in the transcribed summaries. What they do give are the actual signatures of the groom and other bondsman. This can be important in deciding if the transcription was correct and the identification of an individual by his signature. In one case I had though, the signature of the bondsman was in the handwriting of the clerk. The individual had signed his own marriage bond with an x. Jim Scofield

    2. Patti, I am not sure that Linda Varney can photo copy the marriage bonds. I wanted a copy of George Huffman's will and the county court house did not allow it for their old records. She had wrote the will and then took it home and typed it for me. Carla Kettell

    3. Robertson (or Robinson) May is also connected to the Beatty / Edmonds family, I believe through one of the Edmonds sisters. Can anyone give me the exact connection between the Edmonds, Beatty's and Mays families? ? ? Robertson (or Robinson) May was the bondsman for the marriage bond of Robert Beatty (Beaty) and Jane Crouse in 1831, Frederick Co. VA. I am trying to determine if there was a family link that connected Mr. May to this Robert Beatty. Any help in unraveling this tangled web of Beatty's would be most appreciated. Thanks . . . 3. Long.. Sorry for the duplication. Sent to surrounding counties. All of the above names, plus others, are descendants of KIMBLE HICKS, 1746. ADAMS, EDMONDS, HICKS, PAYNE, CHAPPELEAR, FERGUSON, RUST, McKAY, TIMBERLAKE, BYRNE, BLACKWELL, & MASSIE. One of the LACEY families of LOUDOUN CO, VA are related to these Hicks too, through a sister of Kimble HICKS (Secondary source.) We've found some of these living in these VA counties: Fauquier, Warren, Frederick, Shenandoah .. and Loudoun Counties. Year of 1778, Fauquier Co. VA Tithing list has Kimble's brother, THOMAS HICKS, in his household. Believe he remained somewhere in VA. No further data. A cousin, Genie S. and I have found more information for Kimble HICKS' (1746-1837) ancestors. If you have some to share, we'd love to have your information. We'd like to share ours with you. 2. The father would sign unless he was deceased - remember women were pretty much chattel in those days. Even when the father died, a guardian was assigned to watch over the children even if they were left with the mother. If the bride or groom was 21, no one would sign for that party. Then again, maybe the reason I only wrote down the abbreviation of "d" and "b" was that no others were listed and we'll have to guess. I can't remember if other abbreviations were listed or not. I was satisfied with the first answer that it stands for "son" but now I'm not sure if that was a suggestion, guess, or fact. Anyone out there know for sure what an "s" stands for? 1. [VASHENAN] Susannah Henry
    2. Diane Kittle
    3. Susannah Henry was the mother of Moses Henry that married Nellie (Eleanor) Humes (Hooms) in 1790. Thomas Humes deeded 100 acreas to Moses Henry Jr. due to the kindness of said Henry. These activities and the following marriages occurred in Shenandoah Co., VA. My questions: Was the Moses Henry that married Eleanor Humes the Moses b. in 1753 or his son b. abt. 1773? The Moses b. in 1753 probably did have a son or grandson that later married Emily Morgan abt. 1843. Which Moses married Martha Manery in 1798 or Elizabeth Morgan 1825? Was Thomas Humes deeding land to his son-in-law or grandson? Any ideas out there?
