Does anyone have access to a 1910 census? I would like to find William Ankrom or Ankrum in Ohio. William was born between 1859 and 1862 so he would have been about 48 - 51 yrs. old and he had a wife named Rachel but they were divorced at some point between 1900 and 1920 so I can't be sure she will be enumerated with him. He had the following children that may have still been at home, i.e., Nancy b. 1887, Charles b. 1890, Nora Hazel b. 1895, and Mary b. 1896. I believe others were born after that including an Annie but don't know the others names. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi! Your email re the Hisey family is interesting to me. Not my direct line, but I have as follows. A daughter of Reuben Newman and Catherine Ott Newman (Elizabeth born about 1801) married a Hisey and moved to Ohio, probably in the 1840's or there abouts. Another dau of Reuben and Catherine is my gr gr grandmother, so I'm following the Hisey line a little bit to see if any Kendall info turns up. The dau of Reuben Newman in my own line is Kitty Ann who md Jacob Kendall in 1826 and later came to Highland Co OH. So my question is, do you have any record of another son of Christian marrying a Newman, or any Newman info connected with the Hisey family? Jacob and Kitty had one son who we know was born in Woodstock about 1834 so they were still there at that time. What I do have came from a Newman history by Boogher and is very complete re Newman family, but only mentions a one line about Elizabeth, born 1801 who married ? Hisey and migrated to Ohio. Thanks! My list of their publications is pretty current. Sandra
Samuel B. Koontz in 1985 also published a reproduction of Lake's 1885 Atlas of Shenandoah and Page Counties, Virginia. His address at that time was 1714 Central Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA. Tel. 540-433-3957. Alternately, Paper Treasures may be able to find a copy for you, whose address is rlewis1@rica.net/, 9595 Congress St., P. O. Box 1160, New Market, VA 22844, Tel. 540-740-3135.
Skip, I spoke to Mr. Hammond a number of months back and he stated that he no longer had any copies. He was checking a nearby bookstore where he had seen one at the time and told me he would get back to me if they still had it. Since he never got back to me, I have assumed he was unable to find a copy. Chocy
Karyn Borden Ball does have copies of Borden's books for sale. She has a web site but I failed to bookmark it so you may write to Karyn at: theballs@gpcom.net Alley
How can we contact his daughter? Larry

I have been trying for several years to obtain a copy of Gene P. Hammond's reprint of the Lake's Atlas of Shenandoah & Page County. It has been out-of-print for almost two decades. I have been told that Mr. Hammond has quite a few of these left over in his basement. I have telephoned the residence several times without success. Is there someone on this list that lives in, or close to Strasburg, that knows Mr. Hammond? And can find out if he really does have some of these maps left over, and would sell one? At what price + shipping? I would sincerely appreciate any help. Please respond off list to: fflat@att.net Thanks, Skip

I could not tell you if they are on CDs or not. The books I used for your look-ups were the following: "1815 Directory of Virginia Landowners (and Gazetteer)" Volume Four: Northern Region Abstract by Roger G. Ward Iberian Publishing Company, Athens, Georgia (I understand no longer in business) 1999 Roger G. Ward was living in Lubbock, Texas in February of 1999. He abstracted the information from the microfilm records from the Library of Virginia in Richmond which are available through interbranch loan to your local library for a two week period of time-----limit of 3 films per time. You can go to the Library of Virginia online for a list of all films available through this process. I personally use this method; as I have found errors in a few entries plus there can be additional information not recorded in the book that could be very important. I use the reference book to locate who I want to look at and then order the film. I photo copy anything on the film that looks like it could help in the future---------this has worked very well. I also used some of the series of Marriages, Births, and Deaths for Frederick/Shenandoah/Warren/Clark/ Page counties by Dee Ann Buck. Depending on the book they range from years around 1850 through 1880. They really help because they give the parents of the bride and groom. I you have a widow/widower marrying in 1850 at age 50 years old and he give his parents you have put yourself back into the 1700s----------very helpful. She also complied the books from microfilm from the Library of Virginia. Very valuable book. For a list of her books, prices here is her information (you order straight from her). Don't know the 'answer'. However, Rootsweb-L has had one server down for "Rehab" or repair. I don't know which Lists have been affected. Perhaps that is the answer. Amazing! I sent this email ten days ago and have since sent another one in its place, and here is the original ten days later - back from a black hole in cyberspace ;-) You will notice that the date on the message is Fri, 10 Oct 2003. That's almost as slow as snail mail! I can't explain it! Sorry for the repeat emails, even if the first one did arrive after the repeat message!
