I am trying to find out the birth records of a Jacob Dillsaver/Dilsaver born January 1, 1784 to a George Dillsaver and a Mary Smith Dillsaver. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks Jo Ann in Kansas
I am told that a law was passed last year saying the Veteran's Day must be observed on the 11th. Schools are closed and libraries around here are closed. It's a Federal holiday so.... no mail and I would guess no courthouse. Barbara At 04:41 PM 11/6/03, you wrote: >Does anyone know if the courthouse in Shen. James Odell was my ancestor, and it appears that he lived in the area of Shenandoah County that became Page County. The other two witnesses to James Odell's Will written in 1806, along with James Kendal, were Joshua Lampton and Jonathan Odell. ----- Original Message ----- From: <DIXIEGIL@aol.com> To: <VASHENAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, October 24, 2003 6:45 AM Subject: Re: [VASHENAN] David Hisey > Ann, > > A James Kendal witnessed the will of James Odell in 1806 Shenandoah Co., VA > ... > > > ==== VASHENAN Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe, send a msg. to VASHENAN-L-request@rootsweb.com or VASHENAN-D-request@rootsweb.com with the word unsubscribe. >

Hello, I have been adding an accumulation of various contributions and discoveries to the site, some just correcions to erroneous data and some are very visible items. All these items are equally important to those of you who use the site, so anything you'd like to add, please feel free to send them to me. Additions are listed at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/cem/whatsnew.html>. Among today's additions are a list of Confederates buried in Holly Circle at Massanutten Cemetery in Woodstock. On Saturday, 25 Oct, I was part of an honor guard in a ceremony honoring the placing of an Iron Cross on the grave of Private Henry Clay Singleton of Co. I of the 2nd Virginia Cavalry, who was killed 19 Oct 1864 at the battle of Cedar Creek. This cross, of which many may be found in Shenandoah County cemeteries, was placed by the United Daughters of the Confederacy of Petersburg, VA, and the honor guard was made up of members of the Sons of Confederate Veterans from Martinsburg, WV and Leesburg, VA. I will tell you that it was a special feeling to wear that Confederate uniform and to participate in the honoring of someone's ancestor for paying the ultimate price to defend his home. Approximately 40-50 people, many relatives of Private Singleton, were in attendance and I am to receive photos of the ceremony, which I will place on the website to share with you. I have also added approximately forty new tombstone photos for Massanutten Cemetery, primarily Confederate soldiers from Holly Circle. I plan to soon add a few cemetery lists from Frederick County which lie very close to the county line and have many Shenandoah County folk buried therein, first to be added will be Gravel Springs Cemetery, which I hope to complete some time today or tonight. Just to make this information available, if any descendants of Confederate (or Union) veterans are interested, I can get you the information needed to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans or the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, both of which I am a member. These are historical preservation organizations and nothing else, and after all, genealogy IS the personalization of history. Again, any information you would like to contribute to the site is welcome. thanks for your continuing support, Don Don Silvius Co-coordinator Shenandoah County, Virginia GenWeb Project <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/vashenan.html> The 2nd annual Shenandoah County Heritage Day is Saturday April 10, 2004, at the Edinburg Fire Hall, Edinburg, VA, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Could someone who is familiar with the area please give me directions to the Beydler Cemetery from Rt. 11 Woodstock? These are the only directions available: Location: 100 yards S. Oh, my gosh!! I expected a suggestion or two , but the response has been most heart-warming. I have received many wonderful suggestions, which I intend to follow up. The first criticism I got was not including the names. I really did not want you to do my leg work for me. Just some suggestions on what avenues I should pursue in my quest. But since you insist <Grin> here goes. Lewis BEAN was born approximately 1825 in Maryland to parents (unknown) whose origin was supposedly Holland. I have even written to a Bean in Holland, and he had not a clue of anyone who had migrated. So, the next record I have of Lewis BEAN is in Lee Township, Shenandoah County, Virginia. He marries HANNAH SHEETZ in 1852. Their oldest GEORGE M. BEAN is born in 1854.GEORGE M. has a liaison with CATHERINE WEAVER daughter of John and MAry Weaver of the same area which produces GEORGE THOMAS BEAN in 1873. GEORGE THOMAS is my grandfather. And, in the 1880 census, that poor child is not listed with either father George M., or mother, CATHERINE WEAVER.. GEORGE BEAN is already, by now, married to SARAH V. BARR, and they have started their own family. CATHERINE WEAVER is about to be married to ABRAHAM MILLER of Shenandoah Cty. Now, my problem is finding Lewis Bean's parents. In reading census reports from George BEAN from 1900, he states his father was born in Germany. Was Holland ever a part of Germany? And how would I find German BEANS? And, last and most important. Thank you, each and every one of you, for taking the time to respond. To have so many willing to help is just overwhelming. Carol

I sincerely appreciate the discussion regarding the Hisey's. If I may, I'd like to share my thoughts on this, specifically on # 2c below regarding Jacob Hisey marrying a Susan Kendall. Hopefully someone can shed additional light on what I see as a possible error situation! I understand that you are quoting from a book, " Oh Shenandoah, I love Your Daughter." However books can be, and often ARE wrong. On the #2c below, I would really like to see some sourcing, because I can not find a marriage of Susan Kendall to any Hisey in the state of Virginia! Granted, just because I can't find it, doesn't mean that it didn't happen; But where is the source? Appears to me Jacob was a one-woman man for over 42 years. What I do know from my own personal research is that: Jacob Hisey, was born May 11, 1785 in Shenandoah County, Va. Died May 6, 1869 in Warren County, Ohio Married Amelia Williams on March 21, 1808 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. AND, in the 1850 Census of Warren County, Ohio was listed as still married to Amelia, who was 64, she born in Maryland. Question: When and Where did he marry a Susan Kendall? Thanks for letting me throw in my nickel; And I really would like to know more about Susan Kendall. Skip Kendall It goes like this: John Heisey born c 1700 and unknown wife had 1.John, Jr.[1728-171800] married Barbara Yordy 2.Martin Heisey 3.Michael Heisey **** 4.Christian Heisey, Sr [1738-1777] married Christina Hackman 5.Daniel Heisey 6.Peter Heisey ------------------------------------------------ ****4.
