Hello all, Thanks again to Michael Bruck, approximately 100 photos from Boehm Cemetery near Lebanon Church have been added to the site. Boehm Cemetery is one of the oldest in the county. If you have a connection to the Boehm, Supinger or Mowery/Mowrey family, this is a cemetery you will want to check out. This and all recent updates are listed at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/cem/whatsnew.html>. Still more updates coming soon. Thanks to all who reponded to my query regarding research on the Williams families of Shenadoah. I'd like to respond to a few suggestions and throw out my info in case someone sees a connection. <<"Joan Hacket has 383 Williams on her website." Yes, I've been in contact with Joan Hacket. I also have her site bookmarked. Unfortunately, my WILLIAMS individuals are not listed. However, many of the WILLIAMS listed on her site have the same names as my WILLIAMS. Another interesting note is that she has WILLIAMS individuals listed in Morgan Co. OH - My WILLIAMS family lived in Morgan Co. OH for some time beginning around 1849-50. <<"I have some information on John E. Williams who married Ruth Octavia Jennings, <<September 23,1833, Shenandoah Co.VA.,daughter of John Jennings...Regards, R. <<Louise Henry" I believe this is the same John E. WILLIAMS who appears on the same page as my ancestor, Sanford WILLIAMS, in the 1840 census for Warren VA. I've tried connecting him also, but haven't found much that looks promising. If you have any info, I'd be glad to look into it. This is the information I have on my WILLIAMS family - please have a look and let me know if anything at all here is familiar. Thanks! -- Brenda ----Sanford/Sandford WILLIAMS b: 3/18/1810 in VA. The first document I've found for him is his marriage bond. He married 8/7/1837 in Warren VA to Sophia CURRY, though to be daughter to Eleanor TWITCHETT and Thomas CURRY. Sanford first appears in the Warren VA tax rolls in 1838. He first appears in the census in 1840 in Warren VA, next door to Eleanor CURRY. In the 1830 census, Eleanor CURRY is listed in Shenandoah VA. No WILLIAMS are listed on Sanford's marriage bond. John MANUEL is the bondsman. Alexander MURPHEY "personally affirms" that Sanford is over 21 years old, and John MANUEL does the same for Sophia CURRY. Both John MANUEL and Alexander MURPHEY/MURPHY are listed on the same page as Sanford in the 1840 Warren VA census. Some of the children of Sanford and Sophia WILLIAMS have distinctive middle names, and in some cases, appear to be surnames. There may be clues there: William Franklin WILLIAMS b: 1835 (2 1/2 years before their marriage), James Jackson WILLIAMS b: 1838, Idress Ellen WILLIAMS b: 1840, Minerva Ann WILLIAMS b: 1841, Charles Westly/Wesley WILLIAMS b: 1843, Sarah Ann WILLIAMS b: 1845, Hezekiah Taylor WILLIAMS b: 1847, John Russell WILLIAMS b: 1849, Ellora (Laura) Josephine WILLIAMS b: 1851, Eliza Jane WILLIAMS b: 1854 and Mary Elizabeth WILLIAMS b: 1856. (Note - I considered the possibility that Sanford could have had a previous marriage with William being the issue of that union. However, I ordered William's death record and it lists Sanford WILLIAMS and Sophia CURRY as his parents. While this may be in error, I've found no evidence of a prior marriage for Sanford) I've tried to connect Sanford to the family of Presley WILLIAMS. I still believe that Presley may be an uncle or cousin. The names in Presley's family are similar to that of Sanford's family. Presley's son John named one of his sons "John Russell WILLIAMS" - the same as Sanford's son. Among Presley's descendants named William, James, John, Charles, Laura, Mary, Eliza etc, there are Daniel "Jackson" WILLIAMS and James "Franklin" WILLIAMS. Also, some of Presley's descendants married into the CURRY family - and these CURRYs appear to be descendants of John CURRY, believed to be brother of Sophia. I have also tried to connect Sanford with the Overwharton Parish WILLIAMS family - namely Charles WILLIAMS and Ann (Nancy) EDWARDS, particularly since the given name Sanford is found there frequently. But again, I've not found enough information on this family to compare. I thought there was a book written on this family, but I've not been able to find much about it either. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again! _________________________________________________________________ >From Beethoven to the Rolling Stones, your favorite music is always playing on MSN Radio Plus. No ads, no talk. Hi Jim, I did some researching on the John Gyger/Gieger family he was married to Catherine Newlen, the sister of Susannah Newlen who was married to Richard Weeks. I found his name in the will of Daniel Newlen that you sent to me. It seems that John's father Adam Geiger was in Fairfield Co., Ohio in 1811. He is buried in the Geiger Cemetery in Pleasantville, Fairfield Co., Ohio. Richard and Susannah were in Fairfield Co., Ohio in 1810-1830. I'm almost sure this is my Richard and Susannah Weeks. Both families, Weeks and Geiger were in Fairfield Co at the same time. I will have to do a lot more digging, but I think I'm on the right track. Do you know where and what cemetery Daniel Newlen is buried in? You have helped me so much. Vicki: The bond for Richard's marriage was executed on 25 July. His marriage took place the following day, 26 July, and was performed by Anderson Moffett. In the marriage register, Susannah's name is spelled "Newland." [Shenandoah County Marriage Register, 1781-1850, p. 31] There are no probate records or deeds in Shenandoah or Frederick County for Richard. Richard appears in the Shenandoah County personal property tax lists only in 1786 and 1791 and not at all in Frederick County. These are contemporaries of Richard. I haven't found anything to demonstrate relationship, except between Rachel and Ann and between John and Samuel. RACHEL WEAKS 1 February 1778 indentured her daughter ANN WEAKS to James and Hannah Sidwell to learn the art of housewifery SAMUEL WEEKS 1783 purchased property in Frederick Co. 1784 married Elizabeth Ireson in Fred Co 1788, 1790-91 in personal property tax lists Fred Co 1793 sold land in Fred Co; wife Elizabeth 1786, 1795-1800, 1802-4 in personal property tax lists, Shen Co 1802 served on jury, Shen Co 1811 Samuel and brother JOHN WEEKS were sued by Philip Snap in Fred Co Superior Court over land sold in 1799 to Snap, but for which they had provided no deed 1816 Elizabeth died in Shenadoah County [I _assume_ this was wife of Samuel]; three heirs; no husband mentioned. Hello all, The Shenandoah County GenWeb site has again been updated. Additions can be found at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~vashenan/cem/whatsnew.html>. There is more to come, including more tombstone photos from Michael Bruck. Among the latest additions, photos courtesy of Amber Crider and Jan and Sonny Hood, family Bible records and photos from a ceremony honoring a Confederate veteran. Have a great weekend all! Brenda and Curtis wrote for this information. I have need of such info as well. I have been stuck on Margaret Peggy Wilson for years! She was orphaned (means father died, mother may have been living still) at the time of her marriage to Samuel Hupp in Shenandoah Co., VA, in 1796. The marriage bonds show she had a guardian, Benjamin Williams, at that time. I know nothing more, except for her birth date, 1 Aug 1774 in VA, and death date, 7 Oct 1851 in Licking Co., OH. I wonder if Benjamin Williams was related to the Wilson family, maybe through his wife, or Peggy's mother? Or some other way, business, or ? Thanks for any help. I was wondering if anyone knows if any research has been done on the Williams families of Shenandoah for the late 1700-1800's? Are there any books written, or published research on the families for this time period? When looking for information on these families, the allied families (those married into the families) all have information provided by researchers, but the Williamses never seem to have had any research performed. For example, when looking at family trees on Ancestry.com, the record of Phillip Orndorff who married Eleanor Williams in 1795. The record goes back at least 2 generations for Phillip giving birth and death dates, parents, etc, while no info is given for Eleanor - no parents, no dates. I find this true for most of the early Williamses of Shenandoah - whether they are male or female. I've hit a brick wall in my research of my Williams family, and living in Florida, I have to rely on records I order from the LDS, or published online for clues to direct my research. I am now looking at the families I find on the census for clues to connections, but I am having a difficult time finding any familial relationships.

Sorry about that. The minute I hit send, the last functioning gray cell in my head screamed "wrong river!" The Clinch River flows through Russell County. There was even a movie some years back, The River, I think it was called. The Cheat is way up in WV and has nothing to do with Russell County.
Hyrum, I can't help you with the Shenandoah County questions but I might point you in a helpful way for the Russell County ones. Though Russell is on the Cheat River, it has enough relevance to the New River to be included in Jeffrey Weaver's fabulous site on the New River Valley www.ls.net/~newriver/nrv.htm Hyrum Short wrote: > I am wondering if anyone could help me shed some light on this > person.
