Judy, I've already done the Minute Book 1774-1780, page 1. But you can still do page 2. Margaret Wilson is not in the index. However, I sat here the other night reading all of the pages I copied and found two McWms but only one McWms was in the index. You'd have to read all of the pages to know if she's listed. A lot of these orphans and base born children have their exact date of birth listed. I don't know if it was this book? I thought sure my ancestress, Margaret 'Peggy' Wilson would be in it. She married Samuel Hupp in 1796 in Shenandoah Co., VA. The marriage bond, which I found in a microfilm, shows her guardian was Benjamin Williams. I checked the book that day and she was not listed. Is she listed in this book? She is one of my brick walls. With no record of her parents, and a common name like Wilson, her family has been impossible to find. I will have to go to the site, as I would be willing to type a page, if only to help find my Margaret. Joyce

Hey, thank you! I always thought there was only a Charles City and Prince George in Maryland. So these places have to be near the Jamestown settlement. I'm indebted to you once again,Chocy. Alley, I've done page "BLY1774.HTML" I wanted to try cleaning up the jpeg in photoshop, then running it through my OCR software, then proofing in Word. Worked pretty well. How do I send it to you? I have an .rtf file--can I just attach it or is there some other way you prefer to get it? Charles City County, VA history dates back to 1634: http://www.segenealogy.com/virginia/va_county/cc.htm Elaine
Shirley & Carol, I checked my 2003 ADC Virginia Atlas and Charles City County, Virginia is located on the north shore of the James River. Carol, Charles County, Maryland is across the Potomac River from Pince William and Fairfax County, VA. I check the 1815 landowners for these two counties but no BEANS; however, I checked out Loudoun County, VA (northwest of Fairfax County) and found the following: 1815 Loudoun County, VA BEAN, James; 1/2 N of northwest fork of Goose CK; 8W. BEANS, Aron=9W. The Independent City of Alexandria is right on the shore of the Potomac River in Virginia and across the river from Charles County, Maryland. I found the following in 1815 as landowners: BEANE, Capt Henry BEANE, Mary Chocy
Daniel Bly has given permission to publish his entire book on guardianships and indentures on the Shenandoah County site. Bless his generous heart! Hi! This could just possibly be the Hannah I am looking for. Lewis and Hannah, married in May of 1852, making her approx. 16 yrs old. She was on pg 99 of the census and Lewis is on pg 104, so they did not live to far apart(hopefully) making it possible for them to know each other. Thank you for searching for me. There is a Charles Co, Maryland & a Charles City Co, VA. Charles Co, MD is across the Patomac River from Loudoun Co, VA. Charles City Co, VA is closer to the tidewater areas of the state of Virginia. It is near New Kent Co. How large these counties are and sometimes even their names, depend on WHEN you are searching. County lines changed and large counties divided frequently for a certain period of time. The closer in time to say, 1840, the slower the changes came. Charles City Co. was "one of the eight shires, established in 1834". It is 204 square miles in area. Someone more knowledgable can give an online place to search this. I often use the "Handbook of Virginia" edited by Emily J Salmon & Edw. D.C. Campbell, Jr for the Library of Virginia. I need a quick history lesson. is Charles City County in Virginia or Maryland? If it is in Maryland, was Maryland at one time a part of Virginia? Anyone know where W. Sherlow is? My Lewis Bean boarded with Dr. Robert Cogley in 1850. In researching Dr. Cogley, I found a Cogley was also at the Eastern Shore settlement. Perhaps a link? Any help would be appreciated. Time for a history lesson. Carol
Thank you for the look up! I did not know where Louis was in 1850. This is a little part of the riddle solved. So he was not living at home. I think his parents may have still been somewhere in Maryland, or perhaps another Virginia county. I do not even know for sure, how his first name is spelled. it fluctuates from Lewis to Louis with each census.Every new fact brings me closer! Thank you for taking the time for me. I really appreciate it. Carol
