    1. [VASHENAN] War of 1812 Records
    2. Using NARA's online ordering system, I ordered War of 1812 Pension records for Henry Marshall and his wife's (Julia Ann Lambert Marshall) application for widow's pension. I made the online order on 1-29, received over 30 pages today. Since neither Henry nor Julia could read or write, most documents have the signatures of other ShenCo folks as witnesses. I'll be scanning most documents and will send them to Don to post on the Website. The records contain no mention of the parents of either Henry or Julia Ann. The records support my theory that men haven't changed in 200 years. In Henry's application he calls his wife "Ann" and states their marriage date as "about April 1, 1837". Julia Ann's application states their marriage date as April 5, 1827. Julia's date is supported by a County Clerks statement. The printed form from the County Clerk has transposed the T and the R in Courts. It reads in part: "Office of CLERK OF COUNTY & CIRCUIT COUTRS, Shenandoah County. Woodstock, Virginia 'Marriages performed in Woodstock by D Graves as follows: April 5 A 1827 Henry Marshall to Julia Lambert' ". I do not see a D. Graves listed in 1820 or 1830 ShenCo census. My assumption is that he was a circuit Minister, is anyone familiar with D. Graves? Henry Marshall, by the way, was drafted in Captain Thomas Hopkins Company, Col. Coleman's Regiment, Col Spangler's Brigade, Gen Brackenridge's Division at Woodstock, Virginia on August 29, 1814 (some docs say 6th Va Militia). He was honorably discharged at Elicotts Mill, Maryland (some docs say Camp Cross Roads, Maryland) Dec. 1, 1814. Rick Monroe

    3. Bev, the SHENANDOAH list covers the counties in the Shenandoah Valley area (Augusta, Clarke, Frederick, Page, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Warren in Virginia and Berkeley, Jefferson in West Virginia). This list was created prior to Rootsweb having lists on another list-serve and eventually became a list through Rootsweb. VASHENAN list began after the SHENANDOAH list was created and is for Shenandoah COUNTY only. All of the Virginia county lists begin with VA. The SHENANDOAH list is not a county list and therefore, does not begin with VA. There are still many people who do not realize there is a list for the Shenandoah Valley area and another list for the county only. Can anyone help with this query? -----Original Message----- From: L&T [mailto:debough@junct.com] Sent: Thursday, February 12, 2004 2:57 PM To: alley@tampabay.rr.com Subject: I've been trying to find out who John Bullock's parents are and when he was born. He married Mary Hockman in 1807? in Shenandoah County, Va. Mary was Abraham Hockman and Catherine Funk's daughter. John and Mary moved to Crawford County in Ind. later where they had my great grandfather James. I'm assuming that's where John and Mary both died. Does anyone know who John's parents were and if they were from England? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you! LandT

    2. Diane Kittle
    3. Is there anyone out there that knows who the father of the Enoch Henry (b. abt. 1820) in Warren Co., VA (enumerated in the 1850, 1860, and 1870) is? I'm guessing his father may be a brother or some relationship to my Enoch Henry b. Shenandoah Co. in 1780. Since I'm having so much trouble verifying my Enoch's father I would like to research other siblings (if I can identify them) and maybe find some additional info that way. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

    1. [VASHENAN] HENRY - BORDEN ???
    2. Diane Kittle
    3. In 1752 George Henry and wife Debora Borden purchased 300 acres in Frederick Co. (now Shenandoah) from Benjamin Borden, Debora's brother - Augusta Co. records. Debora is mentioned in her father's will in 1742 as unmarried and was apparently still unmarried in 1746 when the Worthington's brought a case against the Borden estate (recorded in Augusta Co.) and named Debora Borden as one of the beneficiaries of the estate or else they simply didn't know she had married. Nevertheless, George and Debora must have married sometime between 1742 and the time they bought the property (1752). I would like to find out more about this family. Does anyone know where I may find a marriage record? I believe they actually continued to live in the area as the book of the Scots-Irish goes on to state that by 1802 Debora Henry too was deceased. Anyone that has any info on a George Henry in Shenandoah between 1752 and 1810, please let me know. Thanks. Diane

Personal Property Tax List for 1831, in James Allen’s district, list 3 Coopers: George W., Joseph and a Jacob. There are at least 2 more George Coopers, one was a saddler and the other one was a shoemaker. Is the George W. Cooper listed in the Tax list one of these George's? Would like to determine if the George, Joseph or Jacob listed in the tax list have any ties to John J. I do have the record from the Poor District 1 specifying the bonding. > > My 2ggfather was George Oglevie and he was evidently bonded to George Huddle to learn farming. He married a girl from the same area, Cathrine Nichiser, 27 Sep 1821. There is no other info in the marriage records. The Poor District 1 record says his dad was Robert. I'm looking for more about the parents of George Oglevie. > > Thanks for any info. > > Clark > > > ==== VASHENAN Mailing List ==== > To unsubscribe, send a msg. to VASHENAN-L-request@rootsweb.com or VASHENAN-D-request@rootsweb.com with the word unsubscribe. > > >
