    3. What year was the Wetzel - Coffman marriage? I'm going to be ordering the 1801-1804 shenandoah county marriage bonds -would it be on there? "J. We have not seen any middle initial connected with our David. There does appear to be a David F. Wetzel born in the 1790? He is often confused/interchanged with our David. [[[[iv. DAVID F. WETZEL, b. 1793, Shenandoah Co., VA; m. LEAH PENCE, 31 Jul 1822, Shenandoah Co., VA]]]. This would mean that David F. was born 5 years before John and Christina were married. Also you will see (attached) that Leah's name is also shown as Feah in some genealogy lists. Do you have anymore information about our David line? Vermont St., Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN10 Resided 10: 19 Jun 1880, Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN10 Notes for JOHN WOLF: John and Sophia had nine children. All of their children were born in Virginia, in the Forestville/Mount Jackson area of Shenandoah County. For many, many years it was believed that John and Sophia had a son Otto, born about 1827 in Virginia. Finally, after some very extensive research, it is now believed that there was no Otto. There is an Otto in the Indianapolis area but after much research this Otto could not be ours as he was born in Bavaria. And a child of his approximate age never showed up in the Virginia or Ohio census records that would have matched up with ours. So as far as I am concerned, there was no son named Otto, unless someone can prove otherwise. John and Sophia were found in the 1820 census for Mt. Pleasant, Shenandoah Co., VA: John Wolf, 1 free white male 16-26 1 free white female 16-26 1 person engaged in manufacturing The 1830 census for the Western District in Shenandoah Co., Virginia shows the following: John Wolf (of Adam) 2 white males under 5 (Abraham 1824 & William 1825) 1 white male of 30 under 40 (John 1795) 2 white females under 5 (Elizabeth 1829 & Sidney Amanda 1830) 1 white female of 5 & under 10 (Diana 1821) 1 white female of 30 under 40 (Sophia 1799) The family has not been found in any 1840 census for Virginia, Ohio, or Indiana, even though we do know the family was in Virginia in 1844 as their son Isaac was born in Virginia. More research on this needs to be done. Around 1848 the family left Virginia by covered wagon and went to Springfield, Clark Co., Ohio. John had the first kerosene lamp in Springfield and people from all over came to see it. John Wolf is listed in the 1852 City Directory for Springfield as a laborer and boarding with George Dibert, a brick maker. In 1853 the Wolf's left Springfield by train and settled in Indianapolis, Marion Co., Indiana. The following information was found in the 1860 Federal Census for North 1/2 Centre Twp., Marion Co., IN; June 12,1860; Dwelling #86, Family #71: WOLF, John-age 65, born Virginia, occupation: cooper WOLF, Sophia-age 63, born Virginia Dwelling #87, Family #71: WOLF, Erasmns-age 25, born Virginia, occupation: cooper WOLF, Sidney-age 24, born Virginia, Weaver WOLF, Isaac-age 22, born Virginia, Cooper UNKUS or ANKUS????, this was not legible, John-age 6/12, born Indiana (This could possibly be Sidney's son John Alta Miller although he was supposedly born in Ohio.) 3. Well, just trying to see if there might be more Turney females we have not found. There was Mary Beeler wife of John Valentine Beeler (son of Ulrich Buhler seen in some of the Turney land records) sitting right there.....we could not figure out what had happened to her after she was a child. She kind of married the guy next door..... Did you see what I wrote about a Panther being among the Cumberland group in TN? 2. I am not sure how the first name of Tunis (Quick) could be turned into the surname of Turney . This would certainly be a stretch of the imagination. There were children named the surnames of their relatives as first or middle names but Tunis to Turney as a last name. Not sure about that.......... 3. I have been watching this about a Tunis Quick with interest....Tunis is one of the early spellings of my Turney family - and they were in this area say 1750-1770s.....and now the mention of an Adams....later in TN there was a Turney / Adams connection. so....could Tunis born 1793 have had a Turney female in his line perhaps? We know of two of the daughters of Peter Turney SR bp 1710/11 .....Eve married John Teeter and by 1774 was living in what is now Scott Co VA.....Maria / Mary might be the wife of John Valentine Buhler/beeler and she also by 1774 had moved to near Bristol TN/VA......I have always thought there could have been other female siblings. Could one have married a Quick? 3. Hi, I did a fast check of some of the deeds in Amy Gilreath's deed books. There is a Tunis Quick & a Tunis Quick, Jr. These deeds often mention land in that is located in both Shenandoah and Rockingham Counties. Must have been right on the boader. Also I see the Reader name mentioned. They married early on (early 1700s) into my Painter/Bender family. My Readers lived near Timberville in Rockingham County which is close to the Shenandoah County boarder. This might be an area to check out. These Readers also gave land for the Reader Church. Maybe your ancestor went there? Also see a 1793 deed from Stoutmoier to Peter Bushong - mentions 3 tracts of land. One mentions Timber Ridge which the Gazetteer says is located just west of Little Mountain the ridge runs four miles from its southwestern end at the Rockingham - Shenandoah County border to its northeastern end at Straight Run and Macanie (3.5 miles west of Basye). Western end of the "Forest" area. Named in 1746. 3. Shenandoah County Gazatteer Quicksburg This place was born on a farm owned by William Quick (1816 - 1879), a justice of the peace and local promoter of the village built on his donated land. The exact date of its founding is not known but it is documented that the site had a post office by 1872 under the name of "Forest Station". In 1877 the name became Quicksburgh and later in 1892 it was formally changed to Quicksburg in honor of the original land donor. Maybe Tunis was related to William Quick?????? 3. Hi, Shenandoah County Gazetteer: Laurel Run (Stream) Its geographic coordinates place it at the north end of Supin Lick Ridge two miles northeast of Jerome. Presumably named, as early as 1753, for the proliferation of the woodland plant, it begins at the 2400 foot level in the Devils Hole area of Great North Mountain. It courses generally southwestward around the south end of Middle Mountain and Sine Mountain, past Liberty Furnace, emptying into Stony Creek 0.5 miles southwest of Camp Strawderman. Camp Strawderman is located adjacent to Stony Creek in the shadow of Threemile Mountain near Liberty Furnace. Hope this helps! :-) Carole ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, August 08, 2007 3:55 PM Subject: [VASHENAN] Location of Laurel Run near Stoney Creek, Shenandoah Co,VA > Hello Vashenan Listmates, > > Can anyone pinpoint exactly where the property described below would be > located? 2. betty himes
    3. Is anyone available for a look-up at Court House in Woodstock - I have part of a copy of the will of Jacob Dodson dated 9-9-1871. Will read in court 1-9-1872. This document was forwarded to me by Alley Blackford and somehow became damaged and I only have a part of it at the present time. I will gladly reimburse any expenses incurred. Would really appreciate any help. Thank you - Betty Robinson Himes

    3. On the Wolf Gap WVA-VA Quadrangle ...1996 issue. This is the one that shows Columbia Furnace in the lower right corner. Columbia Furnace is West of Woodstock. You will find Sine Mountain on the map situated just North of Liberty Furnace. the south end covers Cool Spring. Top of Sine Mountain is the entire center of the tract. Got yourself a whole Mountain.

    1. [VASHENAN] Panther in TN
    2. Mary Miller
    3. I know someone is working on the Panther surname...... I just got a listing of some of the first settlers of Ft Nashborough NC (today Nashville Tn) who left and went up into Kentucky during the Indian attacks of 1780. Since my Henry Turney stayed at Ft Nashborough during these attacks and he up till about 1772 was living around Edinburg VA....thought perhaps the Philip Panther might be also from Shenandoah Co VA. Logan Co Kentucky - court record dated January 15, 1782,.....Philip Panther...... My Henry Turney had in 1774 purchased land on Beaver Creek between Abingdon VA and Bristol TN/VA.....and a bit later on German Creek near Bean's Station - this is the Holston and Clinch river areas. I have said before that there were several other names from Shen. Co VA in this area at that time such as Teeter, Buhler/Beeler, Petre, Nuland/Newland, Funkhouser, etc....... early in 1780 a group of these men from the area went up into Kentucky, across, then down towards Nashville....I think a lot of the German speaking ones might have first settled at Mansker's Station, but were forced to move to other stations due to Indian attacks. There are lists of the survivors of these attacks, but I had never seen a listing of the ones who left and went up into Kentucky. Anyway, thought a Panther researcher might be interested in this. Mary
