Richard, I have my Jacob Blessing also as a Soldier in Capt. Jacob Holman’s Company, called-up to repel British invasion of Virginia Colony. See 1780 – 1781, Militia of Dunmore Co, VA, Revolutionary War. (Records, Vol. 1, Virginia, page 607; Gaius Marcus Brumbaugh.) This was the Defense of the New Jersey Shore, south of New York City. I learned a lot about The Revolutionary War from following this entry into obscure history books, the stuff that movies -- until Ken Burns -- were not made of. The great beginnings of 1776 were NOT accomplished until 1780-1781. Sue McC On Oct 6, 2007, at 9:52 AM, Richard A. It's interesting how these things comes in waves. The IL Logan Co List is up to almost a dozen messages a day, about all sorts of stuff. The semi-obscure French-Canadian List out of IL St. Anne (Kankakee County) List has been very active, too, with a lot of background-laying for those of us who don't read French. I've learned more from the information and FWD's from the VA Shenandoah County List and some IL and IN Counties Lists than I have from the most expensive American History textbooks. It's been an experience. Sue McC On Oct 4, 2007, at 1:29 PM, Diane Klopp wrote: > messages

I like this! MAUCK--My 4th g-gf John Mauck Sr moved, probably down the river, (with his 2nd wife Christena Wiseman Painter) to Harrison Co IN in 1811. He and his son Frederick operated a ferry from Mauckport IN to Brandenburg KY for several years. My 3rd g- gf John Mauck Jr. (Elizabeth Heiser), along with other family members, went first to Washington Co TN in 1799, where John Jr. died in 1810. His son, my g-g gf Jacob Mauck (Margaret Hemp) moved to Harrison Co IN (from TN) about 1820. Some Maucks stayed in VA and some stayed in TN, spelling their name Mauk. FRAVEL--My g-g-gf Benjamin Fravel left Shen. Co. for Harrison Co. in the 1830's. Several Fravels were already in IN by then. Another case of some left, some stayed. When we first visited Shen. Co. (from IN) about 1970, we found Fravels all over the place, and were surprised that they knew some of their cousins in IN. I was able to buy a copy of the Hottell book from the shop in Strasburg, where it had been printed about 1930. The Hottell book has numerous occurences of moves to IN from Shen. Co. of Hottells, Kellers and Fravels, plus other names inter-married with these families. SPORE--The first Spore family to arrive in Harrison Co. was Henry Spore (Elizabeth Ramey), who were married in Frederick Co. in 1807, and soon moved to TN, where they remained until they bought land in Harrison Co. IN in 1826. My g-g-gf Jacob Spore Sr (Maria Magdelina Dressler) married in Shen. Co. 1791, moved abt 1806 to Washington Co TN, then to Knox Co TN, and then to Harrison Co IN shortly after being recorded in the Knox Co 1830 census. The two Spores, Jacob and Henry, are connected by DNA, but we aren't sure how yet. Terry, I don't know if your Joseph Coffelt is the same Joseph or not. 'Shupe' rings a bell -- either old VA or on an adjacent farm in Greene, OH. I'll have to access my Greene Co Marriages to 1840 to see if I can snag any Shupe's or Armstrong's to try for a connection with the Coffelt's and Blessing's. (We recently had a basement flood; everything is high & dry, but 'high' -- it's time to get them down again.) From what I've seen, the westward movement was through various Ohio Counties (add Greene and Ross Co's to your list, too) rather than a VA to IN leap. Sandusky makes as much sense as any other county in OH where farmland had opened-up after he War of 1812. One researcher said that Joseph's 2nd marriage had been 'arranged' (I'd assume through the old families - parents from the same church in Shenandoah Co, VA. Zion? Zion-Pine?). He set out in a wagon to fetch his intended, and they were married on their way back to his farm. And, that was that. No specific county in OH was mentioned. Being widowed, Leah could have returned to live with any Shupe bro or married sis, too, before this marriage was arranged. I've been astounded at the family 'traffic' back and forth between OH and VA and between IN and OH. This wasn't the one-way trek I used to think of when I read about families moving west. -- Sue On Sep 19, 2007, at 9:58 PM, Teresa Snyder wrote: Sue, Have you found any connections with the Coffelt family and Seneca County, Ohio or Sandusky County, Ohio?
