KINGSPORT Omer E. Ketron, 78, of 213 Lucy Road, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Oct. 7, 2000) at Indian Path Hospital after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1921 in Scott County, Va. Mr. Ketron served in World War II in the European Theater of Operations. He was a member of the Thunderbird Indian Division and served under General George Patton Co. B 157th Infantry in Germany. He retired from Raytheon Manufacturing Co. in December 1984. Mr. Ketron was a machinist and worked on nose cones for the sparrow and sidewinder missles that were used in Vietnam. He was of the Methodist faith and attended Hermon United Methodist Church all of his life. Mr. Ketron was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mary Pauline Ketron; parents, Perry and Mattie Ketron; one granddaughter, Barbara Suzanne Amos; one grandson, David Scott Greene; brothers, Virgil and Willie Ketron; and several infant brothers. Surviving are his three daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Michael A. (Brenda) Lane, Elizabethton, Mrs. Kyle (Barbara) McKay, Lebanon, Tenn., and Mrs. Samuel (Debbie) Greene, Kingsport; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Kelley, Steven Amos, Michael Lane Jr., Cyndi Lane, Windy Lane, Samuel Greene, and Samara Greene; five great-grandchildren, Christopher Kelley, Bradly Kelley, Adalia Lane, Alyssa Amos, and Seth Lane. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hermon United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Robinette officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
