How many individuals on this list have found an ancestor "labeled" Melungeon? This means that you must have found the word, Melungeon, Lungeon or similar in a written record or have an ancestor who was referred to as Melungeon by others in a converstaion. Please post to this list your ancestors full name, birth, marriage, and death date, places of residence, AND the reference including book, page, or complete information on the individual who stated your ancestor was Melungeon. The purpose of this is to put names,places and time periods in perspective. AND to see just how many have found such a reference. I realize that probably 99% of us have no such reference, but since I believe that the Melungeon people might have lived 'among their own' it may be helpful to others and myself to analyse where the Melungeon people lived (too many times we think they were only on ridgetops, and I have seen reference on this List to Melungeon towns) 2. How many people on this list believe they have Melungeon ancestors, but have no solid proof? (this covers the majority of us, I am sure) Please give complete information about your ancestor and why you believe they were Melungeon. Be sure to include all your clues and quote their source.
