Hello All: A group from the Wise County Genealogical and Historical Society has undertaken a wonderful project. They are attempting to provide information about the coal camps that existed in Wise County and their influence on the surrounding area. I am honored they have asked me to be the webmaster for their efforts. I will try my hardest to present the information in a timely and professional manner. As they provide the information, I will format it and post on my Homepages site at Rootsweb.com. The information is of historical and genealogical interest. One of the authors of an article submitted today might just be a unknown relative of mine! As it stands now, I am in the infancy stages of building the pages for the coal camps but wanted all to know there is information posted. If you have any information on any of the camps or would like to provide information on the coal camps of your counties, please feel free to contact me. The pages are located at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/coal_camps/The_Coal_Camps_overview.htm http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/coal_camps/Exeter_history_articles.htm l http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/coal_camps/exeter_mine_loc.html http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/coal_camps/How_Derby_Got_It's_Name.htm l http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/coal_camps/derby_loc.html All of these pages can be reached via my index page for Hills and Hollers at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/ Hope all this information helps someone find an ancestor or a living relative and maybe even understand the history of the area!
