    1. [VASCOTT-] Hilton Family information
    2. Hello All Hiltons, Bob Hilton here. Here is some information I just found on my first cousin twice removed - Frank C. Hilton, born: October 12, 1908 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of Isaac S. Hilton and grandson of John F.(Napper) Hilton born April 4, 1850, died: 1915 of Norton, Virginia. The book "Hiltons of Southwest Virginia reported that Frank C. Hilton was the Commander in Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and possibly ran for Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania. I have confirmed that he was in fact the Commander in Chief of the Veterans of Foriegn Wars during 1951 - 1952. I have not yet confirmed the report of running for Lt. Governor. Information that I have uncovered so far at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is as follows: Frank C. Hilton was appointed to the cabinet level post of Secretary of Properties and Supplies by the democratic Governor Milton J. Shapp, term: 1971 - 1979. In 1975 - 1976 Frank C. Hilton was investigated for charges of bribery and kick backs involved in an insurance scandal. Mr. Hilton was indicted and found guilty of the federal charges of briebery, and extorsion and sentence to 1 to 5 years in Federal Prison. Sometime in 1976 a Federal Judge reduced Frank C. Hilton's sentence to 1 year without parol. Mr Hilton was order to serve his sentence at this time. I have asked that the State Archives make Xerox copies of all the background information in the Department of Justice file that I viewed. I will at that time be able to provide you all with more exact dates. It is not readily obtainable by the information I have viewed whether this incident was politically instigated or whether Frank C. Hilton with forethought broke the law. The newpaper articles that I have read in this file seem to lean both ways. Whichever may be the case this is now history. At the time of this incident Frank C. Hilton was as reported in the newspaper articles 66 years of age. I believe this case was being investigate for a year prior to 1975. I do not at this time have any information on Frank C. Hilton after this period. The book "Hiltons of Scott County Virgina also reports that my great-great uncle Enos (Enoch) Hilton was shot an killed by Talt Hall. I have confirm this and in fact found the following song that had been written about Talt Hall and the Hilton incident by a 10 year old boy named Uriah N. Web in 1892. "Old Talt Hall" Come all you fathers and mothers, Brothers and sister all. I'll relate to you a story, The story of old Talt Hall. He's breaking up our country And trying to kill us all. He shot and killed Frank Slayers, Was the commencement of it all. He left his ol' Kentucky Virginia for to roam, Leaving his friends and loved ones Back in his Beaver Creek home. He roamed the streets of Wise and Norton Through the summer and the fall. He met with Enos Hilton, And poor Enos had to fall. The posse hunted for him Through valley, hill, and dale. They found him down in Memphis, And he had to go to jail. They arrested him in Tennessee. They brought him to Gladeville jail, Without any friends or relations, No one to go his bail. They built the platform, boys, Nearby the jailhouse side. He walked out on it and wrung his hands and cried, "If I hadn't killed Enos Hilton, I wouldn't have to die." Well guess I had better close for now. I will send more info as I get it. Bob
