I'm not sure what you're doing here... are you aware of Phyllis Peterson's publications (http://www.rootsweb.com/~vascott/other/pups.html)? ----- Original Message ----- From: "pat drake" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 12, 2001 12:45 PM Subject: Scott Co cemeteries > Good Morning, > > I have updated the cemetery listing to include better location descriptions > and links to topozone maps for each cemetey. > > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~drakefam/scottphotos/headstones/cem eteries.htm > > I am also looking for grave transcriptions to link to for these cemeteries. > If you know of any online transcriptions for these cemeteries, let me know. > > Thanks, > > pat >
Carol, Yes, I am aware of Phyllis Peterson's great books and I am not trying to duplicate her work or replace it. I am in awe of all Phyllis has accomplished. All I wanted to do was collect links to information already online and put them in a place we could all use. pat At 01:43 PM 2/13/01 -0600, Payne, Carol wrote: >I'm not sure what you're doing here... are you aware of Phyllis Peterson's >publications (http://www.rootsweb.com/~vascott/other/pups.html)? >
Carol, I am not being rude. I, too, appreciate Phyllis' efforts. However, cemeteries, courthouse records, etc. are public domain and can be used as information by anyone. I don't know the dates on Phyllis' books. I live near Scott County and within the past year have personally checked each marker and recorded it and its location in the cemetery. I have also recorded EXACT DIRECTIONS, ROAD NOS. AND TOWNS with the county to get to the cemeteries. I am not selling these, but I am giving them to people who are interested. The cemeteries I have checked are those where I have at least one family member buried there. This is not infringing on anyone's copywrite. If I ever publish a book on my family I will use my own cemetery recordings, and that will not be an infringement. I have sent Phyllis some updates for her books and I will do the same for Pat to enter on the internet if she wants it. Now, if I copied Phyllis' books and didn't check them myself and published a book identical to hers, she could probably sue me for infringement because of the way her maps are laid out. I have not done any of my recordings like that. They are recorded as the exact location and I think that's what Pat is doing is giving a more precise location. I have also made several trips to the Scott County Courthouse for information in the past 3 weeks. If I choose to take the time to record the marriages, death records, etc. from the courthouse records that will not be infringement and there have been more than one book published on these types of records.
