My GGGGgrandfather, John Redford/Radford alledgedly resided in Colonial Virginia during the late 1600/1700s. He was born with the surname Redford, and through his father's displeasure at his desire to marry a Cherokee lady, he changed his name to Radford, married the lady, and subsequently moved into Eastern Tennessee, finally dieing and being buried on the banks of the Duck River in Tennessee. None of the foregoing is documented... it is family verbal history. The place in Tennessee, where my documented family tree ends is in Maury County where my GGgrandfather, John Criag Radford, Jr. was born in 1816. He married my GGgrandmother, Mary May Clifton, who was born in Scott County, Virginia, in Lawrence County, Tennessee. Is there anyone on this list who is researching the Radford/Redford lines, who would care to compare notes? From different census records, marriages, deaths I have this information: Spouse: Elizabeth (Betsy) ROGERS Birth: ca 1826, Scott Co. VA Father: Joseph ROGERS Mother: Delila UNKNOWN Marr: 25 Mar 1855, Scott Co. VA Children: Martha Eleanor (ca1856-) Margaret Evaline (ca1858-1894) Thermon (ca1861-) Louisa (ca1863-) John M. (ca1867-) In the 1910 census I have a John M. Seymore, wife Rosa, son Grover C. and sister Elender (looks like) living in Taylor district, Scott Co. JOhn M. is listed as born in 1868 one year off from John M. in the John Seymore family I have. His sister Elender is listed born in 1855, one year off from the Martha Eleanor in the John Seymore family. Would it be possible that the census take heard Elender instead of Eleanor and could this John M. Seymore be the same as the John M. in John Seymore's family. Any ideas appreciated. Um, folks, I'm not the admin, but let me point out a couple of things. 1) Unless the list is moderated (admin must approve *every* post), no, the admin cannot prevent a subscriber from posting something way off base when they've never been out of line before. Mindreading skills are not handed out to list admins. 2) When a problem has occurred, there are two correct responses---one from the admin, and one from other subscribers. Correct admin response: Deal with the offender *privately*. Now me, I've not seen the offender re-offend; I'm perfectly happy to assume the admin's on top of the situation. Correct subscriber response: Deal with the situation *privately*. Whether you choose to drop a note to the admin or to the offender, or both, it shouldn't be on the list. Any and all comments you make *on* the list about an off-topic situation are, by definition, part of the problem----now instead of one off-topic post, we have a whole *thread* of off topic posts.
