Hi Ron, Thanks for the email, but I'm just passing along the info I had from an earlier Scott County BB posting. I am forevermore "The Messenger" ha! The person {I 'm pretty sure} who is the contact person on the book is Beth Culbertson. She gets the same copies of all postings that we all get. So by posting a new message, with her name requested to reply, may get you the information you seek. Also, many other SCRTA members get these postings also, and could possibly know the answer to your question. This is why I'm answering you question as well as posting the reply. This should help to at least stir-up some other replies from more knowledgeable folks than myself. Beth Culbertson is the Treasurer of the Scott County Retired Teachers Association. The SCRTA are the ones who are the minds behind producing these volumes. I wish EVERY county had the same group of dedicated folks who continuously honor ' us students ' with their continued generosity and gifts of living memorials. It's a wonderful thing that here are a group of Teachers that have long been retired, STILL offering to teach all of us a lesson in history, civics and duty. These books, as you know, are the contributions of MANY folks, as a gift and reflection of their years of hard dedicated work. Many of these folks, like myself, aren't even residents there, but are hot in their pursuits genealogy research and just plain memory preservation! My Grandfather, William Wallace Wood, was born in Gate City in 1889. His Famous Uncle's were: Henry Clinton Wood, James Harvey Wood, Martin B. Wood. To me, these books are a kind of repository of priceless collections to be enjoyed, researched and be (made) available for display and access for posterity. I have vol's I and II, but haven't ordered the third, since I don't know if my relatives are in that book. Maybe when you get your copy, we can exchange information on our respective families. Scott County folks are {In my opinion} The VERY BEST when it comes to documenting family history and SHARING that same history with other such researchers like myself. And they don't hold it against me because I reside in MARYLAND! ha! All my best, William M. 'Bill' Wood P.S. Here are some of the names of my other relations in Scott, Russell, Washington, Lee Va Counties, as well as Sullivan Counties Tenn. {looks like a roll-call} WOOD, TAYLOR, QUILLIN, QUILLEN, LAWSON, GODSEY, PIPPIN, memorymaker@comcast.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ronald Whitaker" <whitaker@frognet.net> To: "Bill Wood" <memorymaker@comcast.net> Sent: Saturday, November 15, 2003 1:03 PM Subject: Re: [VASCOTT-L] Scott Co Book > Bill. I sure would be greatful if some one would do a look-up for the marriage of THOMAS HENRY RUTH to MARY (POLLY) BRADY. The marriage would have taken place between 1810 and 1830 in either Scott or Waahington county. I appreciate any info that I can get. Thanks. Billy Pierce
Jerry, Hope you are doing better. James said you were interested in the website for the history/genealogical cd he spoke with you about. You will find a complete description (along with a free historical timeline) at: http://www.mounet.com/~echo/ppp.htm Scott County was settled pretty early. I now think about 1767, perhaps by Obediah Terrel, for whom Obey's Creek was named. He, Bazel Boren and Thomas Kilgore established Kilgore's Camp just East of Patrick Porter's settlement near Dungannon (at Fall's Creek). Thomas McCullock was another early settler (1769) in the Big Moccasin Valley (near where Ft. Houston was later built. You definitely have some interesting ancestors. Hope this helps with some of your mysteries. Danny
Looking for some Taylor researchers. I am interested in Moses Taylor. Just found out that he was married to my g-g-grandmother Elizabeth Carter. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Shirley

For all who responded with helpful ideas, thank you very much. I have been working on the Seymore family for about 5 years now. Slowing I have found bits and pieces. I did find my great great grandmother Elizabeth Seamore's husband and second family and found some 4th cousins. I still haven't found where her father James was from or his parents. In the census many of his children state he was from NC so maybe his parents will eventually be found. His children and grandchildren are found in Scott, Lee and Wise Counties and on down into NC. I am really grateful for these lists and the nice people who use them. Thanks again, Clara __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Hi, Clara I have no information on your Seymore family, but did you know that a discrepancy in ages may sometimes be accounted for by the time of year the census taker visited the family; whether before or after the people had birthdays that year. Check at the top of the census page and it should give you that information. Neighbors may have been visited either before or after your family, so be sure to check the proper page. Just a thought in case you aren't aware. I am trying to determine if the John M. Seymore in the 1910 Scott Co. Census is the John M. Seymore who was the son of John Seymore. In the 1860 census John Seamore is listed with 2 dau. named Eleanor and Evaline. In 1870 he is listed with Martha E. and Margaret E., Thermon, Louisa and John M. Semore. In the 1880 census he has Martha E. Thruman, Louisa and John M. Seymour. I have found a John M. Seymore in the 1910 Scott Co. Census. He was married to Rosa, with son Grover C. and sister Elender. The John M. is only 1 year different from the John M. son of John Seymore and Elender is only one year different from Eleanor. Could the census take have heard Eleanor pronounce as Elender. Could these two be the children of John Seymore. Can anyone get the information off Elender Seymore death certificate (I don't know when she died but it was after 1910) and see who her father was. Thank you, Clara __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Shopping - with improved product search http://shopping.yahoo.com
