Hey Vicki this is Mary Ann granddaughter of Stella. Granny Cuma Smith was only married one time and that was to John A Taylor between 1934 and 1936. Cuma's daughter Orprah was the one married to William Burton Smith. They were my grand aunt and grand uncle. Cuz Helen passed away little over a year ago. All of Cuma's children were illegitimate. They were Garland, Orprah, Stella, Mima and baby girl who died in 1906. When I was in Scott Co VA last fall I spent quite a bit of time at Gate City Court House and have located some census records. What reunion, this is first I've heard of it? Please send me info on that as well. Cuz Helen for several years prior to her death gave me quite a bit that she had from Burt and Orprah's Bible. I believe that what I worked up from everything and sent her was passed on to either Cotton or Shorty when she died. They haven't gotten back to at all with any updates but Helen did tell me their were some updates that was needed. She died before she could give that to me. We are indeed in same line. Looking for anyone related to JAMES & SAMUEL CALDWELL who were in Russell Co., VA, and Lee County, VA and show on the 1830 Census for Lee County, stayed in the area through 1840-50 and believe show on the 1850 Census for Scott County, VA. Both married CECILS from Tazewell County, VA and went on to Greene County, Springfield, MO.by 1850. I am directly related to ANDREW CALDWELL, their Brother, married to JERUSHA ELLINGTON, who (ANDREW) did the Census for Lee County in 1830. We have only found a few of the descendants of JAMES and SAMUEL, as they represent a lost side of the family. Margaret, the reason I ask is that the wife of Abner (Mc)Carty was named Lora or Lori. See the 1850 Scott County census on line if you are interested. They first aear in the area in Russell County in 1820 census, before that on a land record in Aner's name alone. He is likelythe son of David Carty Sr of Russell County and likely the brother or cousin of the several Cartys in that region many of which move on to Eastern KYlater. in fact Lora is burried there, which brings me to the reason I am interested in the name Tabitha. She has a daughter by that name who married Barnett Porter and ended up in Elliott County, KY. That was where Lora spent her last days and it is in the Barnett Porter Cem4etary where she is supposed to have been burried. We have never been able to ascertain what her maiden name was. Just before Abner showed up in Russell County and appareently where he married Lora (no record has been found of the marriage to date, but the date is surmised from the information on the 1820 census and the 1814 land transaction) Lora was apparently born ca 1800, herself. The exact date is somewaht of an uncertainty since Abner is listed as younger than her on the 1850 Scott County census and would likely have been 21 at the time of the land transaction in 1814 he is more likely 57 rather than the 52 shown, She was likely 50 or 52 at the time assuming that the age on the 1880 Elliott county mortality list and census was correct at 80, she would have been born closer to 1800. There are other Tabitha's but this 1800 date is most curious. Are there any Lora's in your line? also are there any connections between your line and the Addingtons, Kilgores or Meads or for that matter the (Mc)Cartys?
