    1. [VASCOTT-] Re: George Robinson
    2. Jean, I don't know if this will help concerning the Ball surname or not. There is a cemetery in Scott County on private property called "Gillenwater Cemetery on Lowell G. Gillenwater Estate", Fort Blackmore. Per Lowell G. Gillenwater telling his wife, Janie M. Gillenwater, that there was 2 unmarked graves in the cemetery and no one ever visited them as long as he knew. All he knows is that they were "Balls." This is what Janie told me just this past spring. Hope it helps. Tammy

    1. [VASCOTT-] Re: Lamberts
    2. Billy (and others with Lamberts), I have a few Lambert ancestors in the Tazewell Virginia area - John, Phillip, etc. - near to Scott Co. Billy, I don't recognize the Lambert names you listed, but I thought that I would tell you that the Internet contact I have talked to with the most Lambert information was Barbara Sevier. Her address (if it is still current) was [email protected] and on the list information she gave me were two Hugh Lamberts, but both were older than yours. So they aren't the right ones. Good luck in your research. Kay S. http://ky.filly.tripod.com/kentuckypages/

    1. [VASCOTT-] Richest Indian In the World: Jackson Barnett
    2. Jean Brand
    3. According to a cousin, Karen Burdue, Jackson Barnett b. abt 1842, Scott Co., VA, d 5-29-1934 Los Angeles, CA md: Anna Laura Lowe 1920 Coffeyville, KS was the 5th child born to James Barnett(Jr) and Mary Jane "Jennie" Williams. Now here's the story, Jackson Barnett ran away from home, finally was adopted by a Indian down in Ok and died the Richest Indian in the World. This story I have heard since I was a small child, many of the Barnett's do claim him as our Jackson Barnett, if so he would have been my g-g-uncle. My John Barnett (supposedly a older brother) grandsons left Kentucky for Ok to file their claim as related, but arrived a day or so too late and was denied to file their claim because of the dead line. The grandson's almost starved to death getting back to Kentucky and had many problems with their car returning according to George Robinson (a Barnett descendant). Now there was a Jackson Barnett who did died in Los Angles, CA who was adopted by the Indians and who was the richest "Indian" in the world. Another cousin did collect the court transcripts and old news paper clippings and send me. So we know that part is true. Let me say until I heard from Karen I never found a child named Jackson Barnett for James Barnett and Mary Jane Williams. Jean Brand 2254 W. 1. [VASCOTT-] Barnett shotting Fraziers
    2. Jean Brand
    3. Shirley, I spoke with Jean Pierson and she is going back to the court house to copy the names with death records so we will know just which Frazier boys were shot by John Barnett. John was the son of Thomas Barnett and Isabelle Duncan, grandson of Elijah Barnett and Permelia Lyons and buried at the Barnett cemetery on Big Ridge, Scott Co., VA. The shooting was over legal ownership of some land on Big Ridge that was left to his grandfa who willed it to his wife Permelia Lyons Barnett died April, 1920. As the story goes, Permelia couldn't read nor write, so two Frazier nephews of her husband's supposedly read her a will claiming she had to make her mark to clear the will which listed the land. The land wasn't turned back to the rightfully Barnett line, the Frazier family kept the land only to loose it to taxes later down the years and finally Bo Berry and his brother bought the land a few years back. They are from Margaret "Peggy' Barnett line, sister to Elijah Barnett and sister to Adeline Barnett Frazier. It is believed without proof, that Adeline Barnett and Daniel Frazier's grandson were the one murdered. One day John Barnett found the two Frazier boys on the land at Big Ridge, shot them both death, where James Barnett,Jr house use to set. You go to Bo Berry's place, stand on his porch, look to the south down about 200-300 yards, and that's the very spot where the boys were murdered. I have pictures of where the house use to set as well as pictures before it was taken down or fell down. I recd a letter from Karen Burdue, she from Adeline Barnett and Daniel Frazier line, but didn't mention a word about the murders, but I sent her what all I knew. Maybe she knows more, i'll sure let you know when I hear something. She also had Adeline Barnett's grandmother was Mary Jane "Jennie" Williams (who married James Barnett,Jr) dau of Joseph and Sally Williams. Also listing her siblings. Now we have the tie into the Williams line there in Scott Co., VA. Sorry list, didn't mean to write a whole page. Jean Brand 2254 W. Gettysburg Fresno, CA 93705 [email protected] & [email protected]

    2. DEAR LIST IN A 1883 SCOTT CO VA DEATH INDEX THERE WERE 225 NAMES FOR THAT YEAR IN A LOOSE ALPHA ORDER. IN THE SCOTT CO COURT HOUSE DEATH REGISTER THERE ARE 154 NAMES ENTERED. IN THE MICROFILM AT VA STATE LIBRARY, THEY ALSO SHOW 154 PERSONS FOR 1883 I NOTED OTHER NOT ALL YEARS WERE IN THIS INDEX, AND SOME YEARS THEY HAD NOT COMPLETED. BUT, THEY WERE DOCUMENTED IN THE RECORDS. I ASSUME THESE INDEXES WERE DONE BY W.P.A. PEOPLE DURING THE EARLY 1930'S. ?? THERE ARE 78 PEOPLE UNDOCUMENTED IN THIS INDEX. IS THERE ANYONE THAT CAN CHECK THEIR FAMILY PERSON'S IN 1880 CENSUS. AND THEN CHECK FAMILY BIBLES OR "OBITS" FOR THIS DEATH YEAR. 1. [VASCOTT-] GIBSONS OF DUNGANNON.VA.
    2. Ron & Navada HEFLIN
    3. Surely, someone out there knows something about the Gibsons from Dungannon, Va. in the 1800s. I don't think my great grandfather, William Gibson, just dropped out of space. I haven't been able to find which ancestors he connects to. There are too many William Gibsons! I wish he had been named an unusual name like mine. Maybe, I would have found his ancestors by now. Anyway, here's what I know. Our Gibson ancestor came over from Ireland in the late 1700s, landed in Philadelphia and came down to Dungannon, Va. It was in Russell County then and is now in Scott County, Va. According to the 1880 Scott County, Va. Census, William was born c. 1834, Kentucky; his father was born in Virginia and his mother born in Kentucky. William was married twice--first wife from Ft. Worth, Texas. She and her five kids went back to Ft. Worth when the Civil War started and William went to Kentucky to fight in the War. After the war, he came back to Dungannon, Va., met Alafare Barnett, born 1849, Scott County and they married in Fairview, VA. Their kids were Hiram, c. 1868, George, c. 1869, John Calvin(my grandfather)born May 1871, Mary(Stevens)b. 1880, Nancy Elizabeth, Belle and William born 1887. The first three sons were born in Kentucky, the girls were born in Scott County, VA. and William was born in Lee County, Va. Any info on the Dungannon Gibsons appreciated.
