    1. [VASCOTT-] Please help
    2. Dear List: I'm somewhat of a geneology rookie and I need some helpful advice from those of you who are much more experienced. I have been researching DARNELL and HENSLEY in Scott, Co., and have corresponded with many of you directly.... I recently discovered a .ged file on ancestry.com that contains 9,376 names...part of the file contains my grandfather, his parents and siblings...all the way down to me. (Wild to see myself and my own young kids) There is a submitter email address included, however my mail was returned as undeliverable...I would love to know who this person is that has put all of this together...kinda eerie actually, and although is doesn't contain the extent of the past generations of my family...the living ones are up there! I don't understand the inner-workings of a .ged file...just pointing and clicking my way through it. I would like to know exactly where our line ties in to this extensive tree, but I can't figure it out. Could someone please help me? Thanks, Kelly Darnell Doughty

    3. Hi All, I have been reading all the messages and becoming more awed by the vast amount of data out there and the level of expertise some of you have reached. It seems overwhelming, but I think I am ready to start on this research journey. Right now, I come to the table empty-handed, but will offer a little article I clipped from Readers Digest many years ago. <quote> Next time you're feeling rather unimportant, try a little arithmetic trick based on the undebatable fact that it took two people, your parents, to get you here. Each of your parents has two parents, so in the generation just prior to that of your mother and father, there were four people whose pairing off and sharing love, contributed to your existence. You are the product of eight great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents, 32 great-great-great-grandparents, etc. Keep on multiplying the number by two. If you figure an average of about 25 years between each genertion, you'll discover that a scant 500 years ago, there were 1,048,576 people on this planet beginning the production of you. - The Rev. Gene Gritton in East Point, GA, Southside Sun <end quote> Oh, BTW, more on subject, I am going to try to locate info on my paternal great grandmother Martha E. Martin, who I seem to resemble. She died in Scott County 11 JAN 1911. She was married to Ezekiel Pope Quillen. I believe her father was William Martin and her mother was Sarah Ann Ketron. (I think I have seen the Ketron name on this list before.) Until, Dolores in Texas
