    3. Good morning List, For those of you that are using information I send to the list, you might like to add the message below from Jim with the material. Jim has been kind enough to correct some and add to the material. All I can do is transcribe the material, but people like Jim that is so knowledgeable of the areas, can keep me straight on the true locations. Isn't that a part of genealogy, keeping the stories and resources as clear as possible! Thanks Jim for your help. This isn't a slam to anyone, I appreciate the help. Have a good weekend, I'm headed back to Fresno as soon as the sun comes up. Have much that needs to be done and pratice with my new camera. I have never taken a picture of my dad's grave and that I have to later today. Jean Brand 2254 W. 2. I a so glad this is going to be reprinted. The pictures are worth the money. I do, however, wish there was some way we could correct information in 2nd printing, such as some sort addition. I don't blame the RTA for the wrong information. I do however hold the submitters responsible for so much incorrect information. People should check facts before printing them as such. If a fact has not been proven, they should have recorded it as that "story told through the years". There are people on this list who know they submitted incorrect information. I think they should voluntary go through each new copy before it is put into circulation and make notations that their stories are just that - "stories".

    3. Ronald: I am a member of two lists who are right now fighting about non-genealogy related messages. I sincerely hope that no one on this list decides to criticize you for forwarding this message. I am crying as I write this. I pray that I will not live to see one of my children die before me but if I do, I will be proud if it is in the line of duty. 2. Jean Brand
    3. These aren't OBITs, sorry at first I took them as obits, but they were written by their child and or children or family members that appeared in news papers. Martha Patsey McKnight (McNite) Patsey Pierson was born April 29th 1818, died July 26th 1907 aged 89 years, 2 months, and 27 days. She professed religion and joined the Baptist Church at Red hill about the year 1843 or 1844. About 9 o'clock the day she died she asked the time of day, she told her grand daughter to take the pillows from under her head, She said her head would soon be lower than that. She then said, I want you all to be quiet and make no noise. She said she wanted to die and get out of her suffering. She then said don't grieve after me. T then asked her, Mother do you feel ready and willing to die? She said yes, I am ready. She then said tell little Johnny Stokes and Frank Davis to come in. She shook Johnnie's hand and said several times be a good boy. About 4 o'clock she closed her eyes and mouth and died with out a struggle. signed J.P. Pierson Jean Brand 2254 W. 3. List , I received this from Wanda this morning and wanted to post here. When the original word got out to the list a year ago there was a great influx of interested people...then when we posted an update a couple months ago more still were interested. PLEASE, now IS the time to get your pre-paid orders to Wanda. The information is included along with her e-mail address in her message. I for one am anxious to have my own copy. There is so much information within the covers of that book!! I am NOT taking orders...Wanda is. She is a member of the Retired Teacher's Association. As you'll see by her message all $$ go towards the book and any residual towards the children of Scott County. The RTA does not personally benefit other than to further spread the history of the county and enrich the lives of children who benefit form their scholarships. Maria Original message from Wanda: Maria, Thanks for getting the message out about the book Scott County and Its People, Vol. 2. We are ready to order at last but need 2/3 of the money up front. So we need prepaid orders now. The company has set a 6-weeks deadline if we can get order to them soon. Cost is $56 plus $4 for mailing ($60). Checks should be made to Scott County Retired Teachers and mailed to SCRTA, P.O. Box 1027, Gate City, VA 24251. We would like to keep an account of orders coming in so, if you can, e-mail me when you order. My address is [email protected] Any profit we make is for a scholarship to a graduating senior from each of our 3 high schools. The cost is $1500 per year and we have been doing this for about 12 years. We have seen students go to college who are the first in their family to do so and those we scholarshipped have all done well. Thanks for your help. Wanda Bledsoe

    2. " In England this week, a law was passed that would permit insurance companies to use the results of genetic tests to refuse coverage or set higher premiums for those born with “faulty” genes that could produce premature death or costly medical bills. The Genetics and Insurance Committee, which reports to the Department of Health, has given approval, despite advice to the contrary from other panels and groups, to make Huntington’s disease the first disease for which insurers can factor in genetic risks into their rates. """""""""" This is the reason that the DNA testing was not done at second union. This will happen in America and other countries if the genetic findings can show that we are prone to illness, whether it be mental or physical. This would also influence the positions in the work place, the level, the entry, the promotions also. One thing that most do not realize is that the DNA can change with the types of foods that we eat, the drugs that we take, the environment that we live in. What it is today, is not necessarily what it will be a year from now, or even a month from now. Twanda

    3. Message text written by INTERNET:[email protected] > I am searching for anyone with family ties to Kinnie William Wagner. Born at Speers Ferry, Virginia, Scott County on Feb.18,1903< Hi Dana, Not sure if I can help much but Kinnie's brother, Kelsie lived around the corner from my family in the early '40s. His back yard butted agains ours. There were two boys but don't remember a mother being there. I was told that Kelsie was killed in the early 50's when he fell out of a vehicle on Lynn Garden Dr. in Kingsport. Pete Dykes of the Daily News in Kingport wrote a 3 or 4 vol set on Kinnie's start in his troubles and the ensuing trial. They are short and at one time cost $11 for all. Not sure if you can get them now or not but heres the address if you are interested. Daily News 310 E. Sullivan St. Kingsport, Tn.37660 There was also a Gangbuster type radio program on Kinnie around 1948 that I listened to but don't remember the details re: family. Roy/Ala
