Shirley and list, I called Jean Pierson last night and questioned her further about the John Barnett (grandson of Eli Barnett) and the two Frazier cousin he murdered over the Barnett land back in 1919/1920 as being Creed and Wiley Frazier. When I explained that Creed and Wiley weren't murdered, she said Harold Peters had told her that. She needs someone to go to the court house with her there in Gate City, VA. She can't climb and the records she needs to pull are on the top shelf. Also Jean and myself has our Barnett book ready for anyone interested. We mainly wrote this book because so many doesn't have computers. Jean Pierson is handling all that, cost etc. We researched and collected and combined our Barnett Family History together. I transcribed the material and the book is over 325 pages, well indexed and some pictures were added. If interested, you may contact her at: Jean Pierson 104 Delrose Weber City, VA 24290 540-386-7858 Aslo Pat Drake's site has new additions. And it's hard to tell by whether I'm receiving mail or not cause some mailing list are so inactive that it would take a national emergency to get them going. Thank you

Jean and fellow Scott County enthusiasts: Thanks for notifying me aboiut the problem with the Holston View transcription. I made an error in naming a file. HTML links are case sensitive and I had listed the file with capital letters vice lower case. If you try the link now, it should work. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/holstonview.htm Should you want to review anything else on the site: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw is the index page. I have completed transcribing the 100 or so entries I made from my visit to the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City this past weekend. The transcription is just a very small portion of the headstones. I have tried to be as accurate as possible, if you find errors, please let me know. I hope to get back there sometime in the near future to do some more. The URL for the transcription is http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/holstonview.htm Sincerely, Wayne Duncan State Coordinator Liaison THE USGENWEB CENSUS PROJECT (A non-profit, for-public benefit corporation)

Does anyone have or know where I can locate a transcription of the Holston View Cemetery which is located in Weber City, VA (Scott County)? Perhaps someone has an address of the cemetery. I know it is on US23 near the Gate City Bridge. I stopped there briefly (about an hour time elapsed time)on Sunday on my way back to Norfolk from SWVA. I made a "mad dash" back to the "hills" to meet a friend, see some realtives, and finally do some genealogy work. I attempted to transcribe some Pierson, Carter, McDavid, Mcnutt, and Ramey stones but realized it would take much more time than I had allotted. I know that I missed some of these names and there were others that I searched for but could not find. The cemetery is still in active use today and is well kept. It is arranged in different "gardens." Unfortunately for me, the office was closed. I will post the transcriptions I completed on my website tonight. http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw Sincerely, Wayne Duncan

Phillip Roberts posted on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 the following and I am reposting this to the lists for your response Twanda I am very interested in the migratory pattersn of our SW VA, E TENN. W. NC pioneer ancestors. Knowing where they traveled and who they traveled with. Can we do this and locate the different routes travelled westward and with whom.?. Phillip Thats a lot of matches that produce a lot of light. Butttt it only takes one match to burn down a home or a forest. AND it only takes a bitter word to cut down and destroy a fellow-struggler.s reputation.
On Monday, March 16, 1998, Mary K Goodyear Posted the following: I now am reposting it to get your imput and opinions. Twanda 1. How many individuals on this list have found an ancestor "labeled" Melungeon? This means that you must have found the word, Melungeon, Lungeon or similar in a written record or have an ancestor who was referred to as Melungeon by others in a converstaion. Please post to this list your ancestors full name, birth, marriage, and death date, places of residence, AND the reference including book, page, or complete information on the individual who stated your ancestor was Melungeon. The purpose of this is to put names, places and time periods in perspective. AND to see just how many have found such a reference. I realize that probably 99% of us have no such reference, but since I believe that the Melungeon people might have lived 'among their own' it may be helpful to others and myself to analyse where the Melungeon people lived (too many times we think they were only on ridgetops, and I have seen reference on this List to Melungeon towns) 2. How many people on this list believe they have Melungeon ancestors, but have no solid proof? (this covers the majority of us, I am sure) Please give complete information about your ancestor and why you believe they were Melungeon. Be sure to include all your clues and quote their source. Mary K.
