My apologies folks, I realized I left out the URL for the pages in my last email. These updates concern the Wise County VA coal camps. The URL of the link is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw or you may find it directly at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~duncanrw/coalcampindex.html Sorry for the additional email traffic. Sincerely, Wayne Duncan State Coordinator Liaison THE USGENWEB CENSUS PROJECT (A non-profit, for-public benefit corporation)
Hello Friends, I have REVISED and UPDATED the coal mining pages. I have added nearly 50 photos and 10 new stories. I have also created a distinct page for the coal camps as well as a biographies page for personal stories. I'd appreciate any comments about the site. As always, we will be happy to add even more info to the site. All you have to do is submit your information to either Rhonda Robertson <[email protected]> or myself, Wayne Duncan <[email protected]> to get it included on the pages. Hope this effort helps someone find an ancestor or a living relative. Sincerely, Wayne Duncan State Coordinator Liaison THE USGENWEB CENSUS PROJECT (A non-profit, for-public benefit corporation)
Would anyone be tracing the name "Epperson" from Scott County thank you joyce

George McConnell referred to as Georg, Jr and George III was BORN 11-21-1794 in PA and died 8-28-1849 Scott CO., VA. married Mary Compton 2-12-1817 Scott Co., VA both buried McConnell cemeteryat Morgan Chapel, Midway , Va. Does these names tie into your McConnell line? Jean Brand 2254 W, Gettysburg Fresno, CA 93705 [email protected] and [email protected]
Richard, I only have Scott County and It's People vol 2. So I don't know where your McConnell's are list. Now I do know that Scott County did have a long line of descendants of Sheriff George McConnell and Susannh Schnebli, but I don't see you mentioned. As far as the Scott Co book vol 3 was only told to me last night by my cousin that lives there. Maybe some list member that lives there saw it in the news paper there and could tell us more. Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2000 3:20 PM Subject: Re: [VASCOTT-] New book Hi, Jean: I am directly related to George McConnell, who came to the United States in August 1747, on board the "Nancy." My grandparents, who were both born in Gate City, VA, were Lee McConnell and Florida Ethel Davis. Do either of the first two volumes contain information on the McConnell or Kilgore families? Also, is a new edition of "The Stollard Connection" going to be released soon? It's really too bad I don't live in or near Scott County. It would be fun to go into Family Tree Maker and have the genealogies published in the formats available in that computer program by working with the branches of the family located there. Richard L. I spoke with my cousin Jean Pierson at Weber City, Scott Co., VA. she states that if there is enough people to write a story about their families in or from Scott Co., VA there will be a Scott County, Virginia and It's Pople Vol 3. As soon as I rec the full details I'll sure let the site know. Jean Brand 2254 W, Gettysburg Fresno, CA 93705 [email protected] and [email protected]

I think Jane married in 1825 Scott Co. William Smith b. England 2. Who are the parents of Jane Francisco? 3. Can anyone fill in any information on the children above? **********
I am new to the list and trying to sort out the GIBSON family of Scott County, Va. William K. Gibson married to Polly Gilliam in Scott County in 1835 and is found on the 1850 census. They had moved to Morgan Co., Ky., by 1856. Polly's family is found online as William G. Gilliam and Nancy Ferguson but I haven't a clue as to who William K.'s parents or siblings were. I am fairly certain that most, if not all, of the Gibson on the 1850 census of Scott County are descendants of Thomas Gibson who died about 1734 in Hanover/Louisa Co., Va. There appears to be ties also to Hawkins/Hancock Co., Tenn and Floyd, Cumberland and Morgan Co., Ky as well. Would like to hear from anyone who might be able to help sort these families out. Thanks.

Jean, I don't have anything on the Dickenson line except, Jim Dickenson, mar. wife #2, Aug 9, 1995, Kathleen Wells of Big Stone Gap, VA, dau. of Claude Alfonso Wells & Virgie Belle Sprinkle (dau. of Wesley Cox Sprinkle & Lina Elizabeth Gilliam). I spoke with Kathleen about a month after she married Jim Dickenson. Recently informed by Kathleen that her daughter, Velma Lynn Goode (b) 1948 (dau. of Kathleen & first husband, Tate Goode 7-2-1899/ 3-9-1983) has most of her family genealogy. Hopefully it will be available to me in the near future. I'll certainly pass it on to you should her step father be connected to your line. I don't know of the Sprinkle in El Paso, TX. Our Sprinkle in TX, is the daughter of Wesley Cox Sprinkle & Lina Elizabeth Gilliam, Annie May Sprinkle (b) Feb 17, 1883, Fairview, Scott, Va (d) July 26, 1981, Plano, Collin, TX (near Dallas area) mar. Rober Moore (Bob) Webb (b) Oct. 26, 1876 (d) Jan 1966, Wylie, Collin, TX, bur. Plano, TX Also in Texas is where my parents brought us, Dallas, TX. Vivian Harris (father) & my mother, Edith Gertrude Bledsoe is the daughter of Evin Parkey Bledsoe & Victoria A. Sprinkle, a sister of the above, Annie M. Sprinkle. Thanks & I'll pass on anything new. Brenda, What are some names of the Sprinkle family in NC/TN? I have an aunt Martha Sprinkle that was in Hawkins County, TN. Maybe some others settled further south or had connections earlier or later, that I don't know of. Mary.
Wayne, What a wonderful site. I am really enjoying this. I have a photo of the Roda, VA, mining camp area. My Aunt Eva Harris of Bristol, VA sent it to me. She had clipped it from the Newspaper, The Post, Big Stone Gap, VA, Sept. 1, 1977. I don't know the date of the original photo, but the caption reads, "Roda was a thriving beehive of activity when this picture was taken." She put a check mark on one house. She said, she wasn't sure which family members house it was now, but believed it to be my grandparents, E.W. & Birdie Harris. (she was formerly Birdie Jane Davis, dau. of George Davis & Sarah E. Surgener (Surgenor). It's a great over view, a 12" X 6 1/2". I'll see if I can figure how to scan it best & get it to you. Thanks again for this wonderful site & all the links with great stories, photos & genealogy. I sure hope you keep it going. Mary

I learn something new everyday and this one is worth passing on: My virus scan says I'm clean now because I deleted out and rebnamed. The wom does attach to e-mail as well. Removing the kak worm When the worm has been detected, the use should delete the following files, if they exist: c:\windows/kak.htm c:\ windows\Sustem\ (filename).hta (where (filename) is a varible, and it changes from one system to another. c:\windows\start Menu\Programs\Startup\kak.hta The "autoexe.bat" file can be retores by renaming "C\AE.KAK' to C:\autoexe.bat. Kak uses a known security hole in Microsoft Outlook Express to create the local HTA file. for further instructions go to http://www.datafellows.com/v-descs/kak.htm Jean
Twanda, Thanks. What years were you there? Are any of your family still there? Mary
