I'm not as familiar with Scott Co. locations as I am Russell Co. one's, but in the Russell tax lists if there is more than one person with the same name, they often have an abreviation after a name to designate which one it is referring to, such as (CC= Copper Creek, EG = Elk Garden, NG = New Garden, etc.) Mike

    1. New Project: 1850 Annotated Scott Co., VA Census
    2. Michael Dye
    3. Hello Everyone, First let me introduce myself to those who may not already know me. I am Michael Dye, coordinator of the Russell County VAGenWeb Project. The other day Mary Lou Wardlaw posted a message to the SW_VA list that she had completed a transcription of the 1850 Scott Co. VA census. While there is another version of the 1850 Scott census online at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~drakefam/census/ we thought it would be nice to also have an annotated version of the census online. We already have one for the 1850 Russell Co. VA online which can be viewed at http://www.rootsweb.com/~varussel/census/1850A.html Take a look at it and you will see just how much info has been added to the census, and there's new info being added all the time. I've now added a file for the annotated version of the 1850 Scott Co., VA census onto the website which can be viewed at http://www.rootsweb.com/~varussel/census/1850scott.html Now I'm going to need everyones help here as I'm not as familiar with Scott Co. persons as I am Russell Co. ones, though I know alot are related to one another (That's why I'm sending this to multiple lists). Everyone Please take a look at the Scott census, and if theres additional info that you can add, email me and let me know. I've only made a couple additions at this point so you can get an idea what it will look like. Take a look at household #'s 1026 and 1510. You will see the additional info is in bold type. For those who may be interested in seeing what other censuses I have online or linked to, you can go to the Russell County VAGenWeb page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~varussel/ and then click on the Census and Tax Record link. Thanks and everyone enjoy, Mike
