    1. Re: Gibson help needed, census 1850
    2. #1063 William wife Polly is mine. He married Polly Gilliam and went to Morgan Co., Ky., by 1853. Burrell/Burl, Spencer, Kendrick, Tyre, Ira, Ezekiel, George Washington [wife America] and Henry Gibson are all found on Morgan Co., Ky., tax list prior to 1853, before William got there. I think some of them went to Hawkins Co., Tenn. Henry Gibson was 80 years old and died in 1855, born in NC he was the son of Thomas and was "yellow." I am also fairly sure they are descended from Thomas Gibson who died in 1734 Hanover/Louisa Co., Va., and had sons, John, Valentine, Thomas etc. I also believe that the above Thomas is descended from the Gibson/Chavis family found in Surry Co., Va., in 1600s, with some removing to Pee Dee district and are "Melungeons'" mentioned in early records of Stoney Creek Church in Scott County, Va., 1800. Unfortunately all I have is a lot of specualtion with little documentation.

BOY ROSE, b. Abt. 1895. iii. HIRAM ROSE, b. Abt. 1902. iv. SAMSON ROSE, b. Abt. 1904. Murder story: WISE - Murder suspect Harless F. Rose pleaded not guilty Wednesday to capital murder and robbery in connection with the shooting death of a Coeburn supermarket manager in October. Rose, 32, of Coeburn, stood quietly with court-appointed defense lawyers Walt Rivers and Stephen Kalista as a deputy circuit court clerk read the charges from the March 16 two-count indictment. He replied "not guilty" with no sign of emotion when asked how he pleaded to the charges. The capital murder charge carries a maximum penalty of death if Rose is convicted, while the robbery charge carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Rose was arrested Saturday by Dickenson County Sheriff Bobby Hammonds after Coeburn, Wise County and Virginia State Police officers began searching for him Friday morning. The indictment stems from the Oct. 5 robbery and shooting death of Timothy Dale Hughes, a manager at the Coeburn Payless Supermarket. Hughes was taking a bank deposit to the nearby Miner's Exchange Bank about 10:40 p.m. Two employees who accompanied him said a man wearing a black ski mask and holding a pistol shot Hughes and took the bank deposit. Hughes and the employees then chased the shooter, who fired and struck Hughes again. Hughes collapsed at the scene. Members of Hughes' family sat quietly in the front row of the spectators' section of the courtroom as Wise County Circuit Court Judge J. Robert Stump went over routine arraignment procedures with Rose and his attorneys. Stump declared Rose indigent for purposes of legal representation, adding that "the court has appointed you two attorneys since this case is very serious." Kalista told Stump that Rose did not request his right to a speedy trial, and Stump scheduled Aug. 6-8 for the trial. Kalista also asked Stump to set a bond for Rose, noting that the county magistrate ordered him held without bond upon his arrest Saturday. Commonwealth's Attorney Joe Carico objected to bond, and Kalista said he did not necessarily expect a bond hearing during Wednesday's arraignment. Stump told the defense and prosecution to confer on a date for a bond hearing. Carico later said no date had been agreed upon by Wednesday evening. Carico declined comment Wednesday on the nature of evidence against Rose but noted that Rose had submitted to a blood test during the investigation. Investigators have declined to comment on whether a weapon has been recovered in connection with the killing, although a black ski mask was found in a Coeburn residential yard several days after Hughes' death.
