When you do so, you stand a good chance of infecting your system and spreading viruses, worms, trojans, etc. to thousands of others. There are a number of viruses floating about because someone on the Lists under Rootsweb became infected and they forwarded an attachment. Please, Please do not forward anything without copy and pasting. Please be cautious in opening attachments. Thanks Twanda List Moderator

    1. Just reminders HAPPY EASTER ALL
    2. Just a reminder to everyone that when you reply to an email on this list, please trim most of the post, leaving just a few sentences or a paragraph (ONLY IF RELEVANT) to remind everyone of the message. This way, when people who subscribe to the daily digest format receive their copy, they won't have to scroll through numerous repetitions of the same message. This includes the DIGEST FORMAT -- if you get the daily digest, delete the ENTIRE digest EXCEPT a few lines of the post to which you are responding. ALSO: be sure and clean out all the "list ads and identity tags" at the end of each post before replying.

    3. I am researching the Rev. Isaac and Elizabeth Good Kern family. Isaac was a Methodist minister in Scott County and he was born Nov. 29, 1806 in Shenandoah, Virginia. They had a son Samuel Kern who married Nancy (?). Any help on Samuel and Nancy would be appreciated. To date I have not been able to find a maiden name or birth, death or marriage information on this family. Thank you, Dick Rice

    1. Scott County and It's People Lookup please
    2. I am researching Drayton Samuel Hale (b. 1839) and his father Archeleus Hale. Both lived in Scott County for many years. Seems Drayton was a bit notorious. Would someone look in the 2 volumes of Scott County and It's People to see if they are mentioned? I do appreciate you efforts, Susan

    3. I, too, am looking for a Scott County family and would appreciate a look up for ANY and all CONNS in the area. My brick wall is Jesse Wilson CONN. He married Mary PENDLETON. I am thinking that his father might have been Samuel CONN but nothing definite at this point. He apparently had a brother Levi who moved to Floyd County, Kentucky in 1820, just in time to be in the Scott County, VA census and the Floyd County, KY census as well!! Another possibility is Jacob CON but he might have been from across the state line in Hawkins or Sullivan County, TN. The children of Jesse and Mary married into the MOSBY, CARTER, MABRY, BROWN, LANE, and ROSE lines before moving to Morgan County, Kentucky in the mid 1840's. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated by many of Jesse and Mary's descendants as we all seem to be bleeding from continual run ins with the brick wall! Thanks! 3. List, Since others are beginning to inquire - sent Wanda Bledsoe an e-mail requesting the status of the reprinting and for a projected date of release. As soon as I hear from her I will post her response for all to see. She may jump on and post herself - so keep your eyes open. Please continue to have patience. Remember the Scott County Retired Teachers Association puts these out. They told us from the onset that they could only begin the reprint when they have 2/3rds of the required minimum in prepaid orders. Many of you sent your payments in back in October 2000 - still others sent them in back in November 1999 when the subject was brought up. There are some on this list that have the book and would happily do look-ups if you provide specific information for them. They have graciously done so for myself. Volume One has been out of print and will not be reprinted!! It can be found at the Scott County library (and possibly other local county libraries) for your browsing. When the SCRTA began this series, they had locl businesses sponsor them. First time out it was the SC Library who chose to retain the reprint rights as part of the deal. I don't think the SCRTA knew how well the books would be received and sought after. They didn't make the same mistake with the second volume when they negotiated with their sponsor. That is why they are able to have it reprinted. For those of you who might be interested in submitting your family history/photo/story the following was posted back in November 2000. *** From the "Briefs" Section of Scott County Virginia Star, Wednesday, November 15, 2000: The Scott County Retired Teachers Association states they are discussing compiling Vol. III of Scott History. They state that if they can gather 200 stories, they plan to go ahead. If you have a story, contact a retired teacher or send your story to: Scott County Retired Teachers P.O. Box 1027 Gate City, VA 24251 *** Good luck! Maria [email protected]

    3. OK, I'm sort of new here. I belonged once under a different e-mail and then didn't re-sign up until recently. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can get my hands on a copy of Scott County and It's People Vol. I. It's for my grandmother. I'd like to give it to her for Mother's Day or her birthday (in July). She grew up there and misses it very much. She'd like to move back, but doesn't want to leave us grandkids in Chicago. If anyone would happen to know where to get it, I would really appreciate it.
