Needless to say, the story of the Roberts in early VA is fascinating to read. My interest in the Roberts would be a deed between Benjamin Roberts (Hereford County, NC) and Joel Childress of TN, dated August 13, 1803. When I did some investigating, I saw that Benjamin Roberts, Sr left his will dated February 14, 1782 and probated March 18, 1782 naming HIS son, Benjamin Roberts, the one who sold 1,000 acres of land on the Stones River near Nashville, TN. Apparently, this family came out of Culpepper County, VA, but migrated to NC. I then began reading about Cornelius and Wm Roberts of Upper New River, VA, 1700's. The article said that a Col. James Robert was in Ashe County, NC. I know this is not much of a clue, but the mention of NC caught my eye. Reading further into his history, it was shown that Cornelius married Mary Benton about 1767c and had ELIZABETH ROBERTS who they show as having married Abraham CHILDRESS, son of JOHN CHILDRESS and Rachel Perkins. The article said that Abraham Childress and Elizabeth lived in Letcher County, KY. The article also mentioned that a William Roberts born 1744c lived in Lunenburg County, VA. I am most interested in this area of VA as my ancestor, Jeremiah Childress had a land patent there and eventually ended up in the part carved from Lunenburg, Charlotte County. There was an Abraham Childress in Lunenburg records. Anything you can share or your valuable opinion would be appreciated! Thank you. MaryJean
