The Col. James ROBERTS in Ashe Co. NC was a Tory and has no proven connection to Cornelius, except being in same general area. It appears that one of the descendants of James md a descendant of Cornelius, but nothing proving a connection of Cornelius to James the tory. We know the wife of Cornelius was "Polly' Mary, but are not 100% sure she was a BENTON. Are evidence is family tradition and the fact that the name BENTON was used as a given, or middle name for generations of descendants. The Abraham CHILDRESS who md Eliazabeth ROBERTS was a son of Henry CHILDERS, not John. Abraham CHILDERS, the "V" was apparently his mark, b 15 Nov 1749, Albermarle Co, VA, reared Amherst Co, on Tye River, d 6 May 1849, Letcher Co, Ky s/o Henry CHILDERS & Susan (Susannah) Goldsby b c 1723 d/o Thomas GOLDSBY. Abraham had 5 known brothers: William, Goolsby, Robert, Henry & Moseby. (According to Mrs. Nelson Abr. was s/o Henry & Susannah (Goolsby) CHILDERS) Your CHILDRESS is like of the same family, but I don't have Jeremiah. Lots of Abraham CHILDERS/CHILDRESS..
